Trillium

Tri color

Trillium wild flowers have come and gone for this season. I got a few photos recently.

Tri folded

There are two type in my area. The white with red splashes are Painted Trillium. The other is the solid red Trillium.

Tri close up

We found a group of Painted Trillium down by the lake.

Cluster

This cluster of Red Trillium is in our back yard.

Location

They are growing in front of a split rock.

Closeup

Trillium are founded in shaded areas often on the edge of the woods. The woods they prefer are beech-maple-oak. Throw in some pines and thats exactly what you find around our part of Vermont.

Three

Trillium hikes are a favorite part of spring. They bloom in mid to late May usually. The nature lovers grapevine around here usually lets us know when people are starting to see them 🙂

Thanks these wildflowers are quite sensitive and somewhat rare. Always good to find them. They are very slow to bloom taking 7-10 years from seed to bloom.

I used to have a red trillium in my north garden but it didn't survive being transplanted during construction. Love seeing yours!

I think they are very hard to successfully transplant. This one is growing near a rock in an area that has probably avoided being disturbed when our house was built and is near the woods in an area that has probably never been mowed and certainly never farmed/gardened. I'm glad to share 🙂
