Mt Horrid

View of Mt Horrid from Brandon Gap on the Long Trail. What a cool name for a mountain lol

Dirty ditch snow

Our #wednesdaywalk (hosted by @tattoodjay) was on snowshoes this week. We started at the Brandon Gap trailhead for the Long Trail. You have to hike along the highway about 100 yards to catch the Long Trail going south.

Trail

The trail is well marked and there was enough previous traffic to make it easy to follow.

Mt Horrid

View are nice this time of year through the trees. In summer you trade the nice views for green leafy canopy.

Green Mountains

The trail is in the Green Mountain National Forest. You can see the distant peaks of the eastern Green Mountains through the trees.

Shoeing

Its lovely and peaceful once you put some distance between yourself and the highway.

Vista

But snowshoeing makes the hike more strenuous.

Bridge

Its a nice trail with several bridges but there are still a few stream crossings.

Backcountry ski access

The trail also provides access to several backcountry ski areas.

Snowpack

This photo was supposed so the snow pack depth but failed 🙄 you can get a look at the snowshoes we were using.

Snowpack

Here's a better view. There was probably about 18 inches of snow on the trail.

Trail curve

The forest is so quiet with the snow on the ground.

Lead dog

But its also kind of like the old saying, "if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes" 😁

Long trail

The Long Trail stretches across Vermont top to bottom for 273 miles in total. We are fortunate to live in an area where you can access the Long Trail at several points for short hikes.

Vista

One last photo of the view. Have a great day 👍
