I looked back and didn't get an photos good enough to identify the tree. The forest along that trail is heavy on white pine and it looks like that is probably what the oysters were on.

Yeah its a shame seeing edible mushrooms like chicken or oysters on an evergreen tree. Probably won't kill you but it causes upset stomach/vomiting at worst. The best finds are on willow trees as the willow adds a bit of sweetness to the taste of the mushroom.

I didn't get any photos but I found some more chicken of the woods that I'm watching. It small now but at a place I've harvested before

I've found some really nice chicken on spruce trees sadly couldn't harvest it. Its good to remember where it grows on the hardwoods. It tends to come back again at the same time every year. Just have to beat the slugs to it.
