Rattlesnake Cliff hike

Silver Lake

Wednesday was a nice day before the rains hit. We hiked up to Rattlesnake Cliffs above Lake Dunmore in Addison County, Vermont.

Top of the world

The hike is 4 miles out and back with a 1400 feet elevation gain and considered a moderately hard route. But the view is great 😍

Looking south

Fall foliage is definitely past peak. Tops of the mountains are bare. Lower down near the lake the leaves are still looking good.

Pano

Pano shows the length of Lake Dunmore. Its about 3 miles long.

Trails

You can also see Silver Lake and Fern Lake. And maybe Mud Lake but I couldn't find it today. Mud Lake is more of a wet lands and probably pretty low given the drought we are experiencing.

Hiker

Lots of leaf covered trails and some exposed rock as you get higher up. Fortunately its been a dry stretch. Hiking this time of year can be tricky when the leaves are wet. It can get quite slippery.

Fern lake

Fern Lake is second lake, centered in the background here past Lake Dunmore. They are separated by a ridge left over from the glacial period. Thanks for sharing my hike 👍

Nice peak color on a peak. Time to reintroduce the rattlesnakes back there I suspect they would turn into cool color morphs to match the leaves.

Rattlesnakes would be happy. Damn early settlers did not have an elightened view of conservation 🙄

I suspect they might have been a bit more rare up there. In AZ everyone just gave up trying to eradicate them and just learns to live with them. We all became expert snake movers.

Cool photos from the top... It's pretty dry here too, the rain will do us good. Too bad it's falling on Halloween night.
Happy Halloween and don't eat too many sweets 😀

The rain will keep the trick or treaters away. Too much candy left over 😳
