Rattlesnake Cliff hike

Looking South

View of the southern Green Mountains from Rattlesnake Cliff in Moosalamoo National Recreation Area.

Fat part of Lake

View of Lake Dunmore from Rattlesnake Cliff.

Trail

Ok those are the payoff photos... now the hike. The hike starts at about 600 ft above sea level. At low elevations, the trails were clear of snow and not too muddy.

Stream

You quickly come to Sucker Brook which still has some ice on the edges.

Bridge

A nice bridge gets you over.

Woodsey

A cool vintage Woodsy the owl sign 🙂 Woodsy was introduced by the National Forest Service in 1971. “Give a hoot – don’t pollute!”

Snow covered trail

The hike is about 4 miles round trip with an elevation climb of 1200 feet. As we climbed the snow became covered in snow.

Frozen Seepage

Its never a good thing for there to be frozen seepages ABOVE the trail which cause icy sections. We had micro spikes which we stopped to put on.

Frozen waterfall

The streams had more ice up here too.

Mountains

But you also start to get views of the mountains.

Silver Lake

And then views of the lakes.

Lakes w/ Silver lake

Left to right you can see Silver Lake (elevation 1250 ft) then the smaller Fern Lake and Mud Lake plus the larger Lake Dunmore.

Lakes

The southern mountains are the Green Mountains.

End of the trail

Then you come to the "End of the Trail" 😂

Lake Dunmore

Looking to the west you can see the Adirondack Mountains in neighboring New York state.

All 3 lakes

The sun was very bright and washed out some of my pictures 🙁

North end of Lake Dunmore

There are several vistas looking south, west and more north like this one.

Looking North

Looking north you mostly see the Champlain Valley. Lake Champlain is across the valley at the base of the Adirondacks but not really visible today.

Pano South

And here is the obligatory pano shot.

Pano South 2

Great hike and great views. I'll be up here again in the summer for photos when the view is clearer. Those of you that follow my posts may remember I hiked this trail a few weeks ago. Its a nice hike close to home and good to do between the ice and mud season 🙄
