Photos from a walk in the snow

Fence wide

A fresh, powdery snow makes for nice photos πŸ™‚ A split rail fence sits at the top of a ridge at the edge of a field along our walk. The snow piled up nicely in the absence of any wind.

Snowed under

The fence looks great in the summer too with a patina of lichen. The lichen is visible under the snow.

Fence

The fence appears ancient but the land owners keep things up pretty well so it might have been added more recently than it appears (and intended to look ancient lol)

Split pine

This tall white pine that is split near the base stands out towering over the surrounding tree line.

Birch bark

Lots of birch mixed into the woods with the maple and pine. Paper birch bark famously peels in the winter. Not sure if this is a paper birch but the bark is definitely peeling.

Curls

The fluffy snow was sticking to the rough surface of the birch trees. Lots of fun details in the fresh snowfall πŸ™‚

The place looks so peaceful. We had a few warm and rainy days, so only the dirt and some ice is left.

We are going to have cold weather this week so the snow will stick around awhile. 0F this morning πŸ₯Άthe snow is still pristine and white. The muck from the roads and salt/sand they put down will spoil it before long.

The fresh snow is always so pretty, until you have to move it... :))

I agree. It looks pretty in the woods where you can just wait for it to melt πŸ™‚

Keep an eye out for chaga in those birch forests. Might be easier to spot it during the winter as it is just a big black clump.

I had to look up chaga. I wasn't familar with it. There might be some on a birch on the edge of our yard. I'll check it out. I thought that birch was diseased and was thinking about cutting it down 😲
