Norman Williams Public Library
We visited the Woodstock, Vermont yesterday and the Norman Williams Public Library.
The beautiful library was built 1883. More info on history Here
The exposed wooden beams supporting the ceiling dominate the space but all the details are wonderful like this reading room.
This wooden door no longer goes anywhere but was exposed on the wall at the second floor height.
The study carrels on the the second level are beautifully done down to the wooden chairs.
Some nice stained glass and leaded glass was used in the windows.
But the massive ceiling beams keep drawing your eyes upward.
Each row of shelves had two step stool at the end of the row against the wall. Another perfect detail.
One final look at the second floor. What a great find along the Woodstock Village Green 🙂
Sending you Ecency curation votes.😉

Thanks @iamjadeline and @ecency for the support 🙏🙏
What a beautiful place. If you like libraries, if you ever visit Portugal check livraria Lello in Porto, and prepare to a jaw drop!
Yeah this place is beautiful but it is a small town library in rural Vermont. There are some incredible libraries out there 👍
They don't build them like they used to. I once proposed a ceiling similar to this in a project but of course it got "value engineered" out of the project.
These are the times we live in 🙁 maybe you were born too late. You were destined to design buildings in the 1880s
Better embrace the design of modular single wide trailers that fit together like legos in a brutalist fashion lol.
Very beautiful bookshop especially thanks to this work on wood, simply superb especially the small desks.
Have a great Sunday
Thanks. It was a cool space. They don't build things like this anymore.
Libraries and bookstores are among my very favorite places! This one is beautiful!
Me too. And New England has such a tradition of free public libraries. Every little town has a church, a library and a townhall.
I don't think that tradition followed so much into the Midwest, not like back East. We do seem to have plenty of churches, though!
