Mountain lake Wednesday Walk
Happy #WednesdayWalk hosted by @tattoodjay. Today's walk was up to Silver Lake.
Silver Lake is a small mountain lake above Lake Dunmore in Addison County, Vermont.
Goshen Trail is a short hike of 0.6 miles down to the lake from a parking area.
Lets get started. The trail is still pretty but clearly past peak colors.
The beech trees hold on to their leaves and tend to turn yellow. The forest floor is covered with the more colorful oranges and reds from the maple trees.
Some of the prettiest fall colors are on the ground 🙄
Most of the trail down to the lake was leaf covered.
The fungi on this old log add to the lovely fall patterns in the leaves.
I think this mushroom is turkey tail.
Interesting to see the new growth that doesn't have the darker patterns yet.
As we got nearer to the lake, the Goshen Trail meets up with other trails that go around the lake.
Here's a picturesque dry creek bed. The hike was dry all the way. Its sloped enough to drain well.
Some cute little mushrooms.
Cute but probably poisonous Galerina marginata (deadly skullcap) if my identification is correct. Even if its not I left them alone 😅
Continuing the walk, there were a few pine forest sections. This area of Vermont is a mixed forest with lots of white pine to go along with the maples, oaks, beech, aspen, etc.
The trail was well maintained and marked - even had a few small bridges. The only problem with fall hikes is that sometimes the trail is so covered in leaves it is hard to follow. The blue markers on trees help keep you on trail.
Most of our walk was peaceful forest.
Lighting varied with how much of the leaf canopy was remaining.
I didn't realize I was on the "Road to Redemption" 😂
Finally a glimpse of Silver Lake.
We were walking in the afternoon and the shadows were growing long.
The forest was getting dark but the sun was bright on the lake.
Sunlight on the ripples in the lake. Plus a small Eastern Newt hovering over the rock under water.
You can see the small newt and its shadow in this (poor quality 🙁) photo.
The opposite lake shore was casting a dark shadow as the sun was moving lower in the sky.
We passed this nice reflection on a small inlet to the lake.
Another view of the Silver Lake as we prepared to turn around and hike back.
Thanks for joining me on my #WednesdayWalk to Silver Lake 🙂
Road to redemption, no matter how long/short a trail it is all about the adventure, in what we see looking into our beautiful world.
Exceptional colours with fall throwing light, magical find in mushrooms on moss rewarding for photography of which yours was fun going through.

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 25/55) Liquid rewards.
Thanks for the tip! It was a lovely walk. I am fascinated by the old hotels (now all gone) around Silver Lake and Lake Dunmore. I have started reading some local history but there is not a lot.
Finding history is not easy, some places dwindle into the mists of time with few looking to try piece back together what transpired before disappearing.
Location looks enchanting with views, always good to see nature take back then opened to public to enjoy once again.
What a wonderful walk @steven-patrick the colours are just special 🍂🍁 love it.
What a views.
You found also many mushrooms…
Yay, I saw the newt. How cute is that.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Have a wonderful Wednesday 👋🏻😊
Thanks. The newt was a cool find. He was just hanging there in the water. Looked so relaxed and content.
You are welcome @steven-patrick 😊 very cool… he was so relaxed and just hanging there.
Good evening 👋🏻
Cool pictures, I googled Newt and found out they live to be 12-15 years old.
Wow I had no idea newts lived that long. I'll have to look for him again next summer 🙂
I believe the source I read said that was out in the wild.
I wonder how that corresponds to pet Newts.
Beautiful photos! 😍
I very like it!
Thank you. It was a very nice walk.
That COLOUR. Goodness. It's so beautiful. I can imagine the crunch of leaves, their fall.
Thanks! it was a great little hike.
Very beautiful walk until this lake with its transparent water that even the newt cannot hide itself from your camera 😀
Thanks for checking out my post 👍
