Monday early fall photos from Vermont

Some Monday early fall photos from Vermont. My golden spice pears are still on the tree but should be ripe soon. Golden Spice are a very cold hardy variety.

I harvested a few of my Liberty apples this weekend when we had guests. They are just starting to be ripe.

This is another Liberty apple but we also tried a Winecrisp which are also about ripe.

We walked our neighbors dog for them today so I took a couple of photos of their garden while waiting for my wife to get the dog. They always grow a few Gilfeather Turnips. Gilfeather Turnips are the state vegetable of Vermont 😆 Do you know what the state vegetable is where you live?

His tomatoes are having a good year. But then again his garden always does great. He has good soil he has developed over the years and gets better sun than we do.

Marigolds border the road. You can see the wall of tomatoes again.

He always pulls up his onions then lets them dry awhile before bring them in. He stores them so I guess this is a good practice.

Besides garden envy, we also love their rock walls along the road.

Here is a better view. The walls are several feet wide and high. The soil in this part of Vermont is very rocky. Early settlers often built walls along the edge of their fields with the rocks they cleared from the field. These walls were cleaned up/rebuilt in the 1970s.

They also border the lake 🙄
