Fall Leaves

I took some pictures of different leaves around the yard. This is a nice maple leaf.

Another maple in a different color.

A cluster of maples leaves. I like taking shots that show the leaves as they are - blemishes, shadows, insect damage. Nature is beautiful without Adobe Photoshop 🙂

This is a beech leaf. I have several large American beech trees along one side of the yard. They a gorgeous green wall in the summer then yellow to gold in the fall. Not as pretty in the fall as the maples.

This is a hornbeam leaf. Very similar to beech but beech trees only turn yellow.

Finally, a shot of the shoreline of Lake Dunmore. This is a good idea of what we are seeing this year. It hasn't been a consistently good year for colors but there are nice splashes of color if you take the time to look around.
I see a sneaky leaf hopper on the red hornbeam leaf. Its amazing how many different shape of those guys are around. This year for fall I'll try and collect a few then soak them in glycerine and put them into an old book. Works perfectly for preserving the color and flattening them out.
I wondered if anyone would notice the leaf hopper, I saw it when I was posting. I've never tried glycerine. My wife presses some leaves and mostly flowers. She has two panes of glass. Cool way to press and then display.
I've tried a few concoctions for preserving color but the liquid glycerine really works well. You just need a disposable book that can take the wet leaves soaking into the pages lol.
We have lots of random free books. My wife uses them for collages. We have tons of virtually any art supply you can think of ... 🙄
Ha I know what you mean my wife won't let me throw away my old design school supplies, I'm hoping my daughter can tear through them eventually so we can get rid of them.

When we were driving back from the concert yesterday, we saw spots of color but many trees were bare from the rain. More rain today so more bare trees...
We got out on an early walk today before the rain and many of the trees are bare from the gusty wind all night 🙁 its all down hill to winter from now on lol
Sigh.... at least I have plenty of wood for the stoves...
