Dressing up Pelican tuxedo style for a free meal in Bokkom Laan, South Africa.
The Berg (Mountain) river is one of the major rivers in the Western Cape, South Africa. It is 294 kilometres (183 miles) long. It ends its journey into the Atlantic Ocean on the West Coast of South Africa through a fishing village called Velddrif.
At this point there is a short dirt road right on the edge of the river that serves local subsistence fishermen with wooden jetties to tie up their boats to. The river is home to a vast number of beautiful water birds. Naturally, where there are fishermen, there will be fish eating birds hanging around in the hope of an opportunistic meal. Bokkomlaan is no different and has a resident group of Pelicans that get tossed offcuts of fish caught by the local fishermen as the prepare the caught fish for sale to the public.
The Pelicans put on incredible shows during these times and here a beautiful lady can be seen dressing herself up for her next free meal.

Awesome image of pelicans! Who can resist the free meal? 😄
Pelicans look so clumsy with their short legs, but so elegant in flight.
Thanks @nelinoeva and yip, they can be funny up close on the ground.

Thanks! I am not so good with long flowy comments but I do read and keep track of those I care about......... Unless the green crap takes over than all bets are off LOLL
Haha……..thanks so much and that green crap belongs in the toilet so it is definately a good way to treat things 😅
Never say no to a freebie meal, good fisherman themselves when those feathers are all ready to take to patrolling the rivers themselves.

First time as children we saw our first Pelican was in Bulawayo Park, my Dad said this verse (born 1911 it must have been something he learned growing up).
Limerick of that day and age, we were taught some good things back then !LOLZ

Gorgeous close up!
Yip they are 😊
She's a beautiful lady, mouse. I hope she got a plentiful meal after all that preening. x
She and her “band of ugly sisters” were amazing chief. Everytime I went down they would put on incredible shows and even bow & curtesy at the end of each act when the audience applauded.
They were very well rewarded each time as the subsistence fishermen would give them a bucket of “sardine” (harders) off cuts each time from their little processing building across the road 😊❤️ xx
Ooh! I love that, she's bowing right now. 👏👏👏
Yip, an incredibly humble, gracious and beautiful lady she is 😊❤️
