My Weekend

Last weekend I went again to the village, Katafygí. Every time I go there, I feel like I escape from everything. The air is fresher, the sounds are different, and life feels slower. I woke up in the morning and instead of traffic or noise, I heard birds, wind, and the calm of the mountains. Just this change is enough to clear my head.

Katafygí always gives me that sense of peace. Walking through the small stone streets, seeing the old houses, and greeting familiar people reminds me that life doesn’t have to be complicated. Drinking my coffee outside, under the trees, becomes more special there than any fancy place in the city. Sometimes it’s these small moments that make me realize what really matters.

But this weekend was also different. I decided to visit Mount Olympus and go to the waterfalls at Agioi Kori. I had heard about them before, but being there is something else. The path to reach them already makes you feel you are entering a hidden world. Trees all around, the sound of running water, the smell of pine. Every step made me feel lighter, like I was leaving behind the weight of the week.

And then I saw them. The waterfalls. Water falling down the rocks into clear pool, shining under the sun. For a while I didn’t speak, I just stood there watching. It’s hard to explain the feeling, but it was like time stopped. The sound of the water was strong, but also calming. It covered every thought in my head, and I felt empty in the best possible way.

I sat down and put my feet in the water. It was freezing cold, but that shock was almost magical. It felt like all the tiredness left my body immediately. Around me there were some other people, but still the place felt untouched, secret, like a gift from nature that not many know.

As I get older, I find myself enjoying the simple things more — a nice view, a walk in the forest, and relaxing with friends while reminiscing.

That's what it's all about, my friend, enjoying the simplest things and appreciating them. You really needed this break, and you chose the perfect place, not only for the nostalgic feelings of returning, but for the adventure of discovering new places that bring you peace. The waterfalls and the pond with such pure water have brought me peace just from looking at the photographs. I'm so glad you had such a great time, and thank you for sharing it with us. It may be my only time to visit this remote place 🙏

That moment you put your feet in the icy pool really stuck with me. It’s wild how a quick cold shock can clear the mind faster than any spa. Do you have a go-to spot in Katafygí for that quiet coffee under the trees, or do you just follow the shade each time? This makes me want to plan a small escape soon.

In my home I have big tree that always keeps a shady space for me but because it is a village in the mountain there are a lot of spots where I go

That sounds perfect, like the tree is your steady little café. Do you have a favorite hour for that quiet cup, or do you let the day decide? In the village, which spot do you pick for deep calm, and which one for a chat with friends?
