Who don't love Corn ๐ฝ? Enjoy the Stroll in my backyard.
Corn Soup, Corn Salads, Spinach Corn are some of my favourite corn dishes apart from chewing roasted Corn. It is one of my dad's favourite too. During the harvesting season he simply rely on eating ๐ฝ in any form. He used to love the fresh milky juice that comes out of the fresh ๐ฝ. Also there were many authentic dishes that were cooked by my mom for him. We alwsys store corn๐ฝ in flour form at home and make chapati and other few dishes.
This season I could not, made much effort during the ๐ฝ sowing time, due to my Dad's demise, but watching my backyard with fully grown ๐ฝ crops simply made me feel happy. I took out for a stroll yesterday evening and saw some different shades and style of these Corn plants.
This is a little glimpse of our home backyard, ancestorsl mud house at the back drop, gamcha (towel) on the shoulder, standing right in middle of our corn fields...its me ๐ appreciating the gifts and beauty of mother nature. She has blessed us with so many cereals to feed upon and Corns are one of them. This season our region has abundant of corn farming, thanks to scarce and limited rainfall, however it does affected our main staple Rice farming.
But looking at these Corn crops, simply filled my heart, but also feel sorry that my dad is not woth us to enjoy them.

We enjoy eating Corns in all forms but hardly ever thought about the different parts of corn plants and how corn grows, how a green leafy plant germinate the seeds to make it a cereals and allow them to grow in their stems.? The left one on the above picture is called "tassel" whereas the hair on top of the baby corn are called "silk or styles". I am sure many of us are not aware about the first one as we always recall them with 'flower'.
We have a very long backyard, what used to be a clear ground before is now a lush green corn field. A very narrow lane is left in middle to passover and remaining area were utilized for corn ๐ฝ .So far we have abundant corn plants and it feels too good to be in between them. Felt so lively.
Understanding the growth of Corn in a plant is bit complicated but it has the same theory of male and female version that are universal truth. You can say, the tassels are the male part and the silks are the females. Anyway, letting you to enjoy my stroll with some of the picture from my corn backyard.

While you were enjoying the picture, I went over to internet to find this :
The leafy stalk of the plant gives rise to inflorescences (or "tassels") which produce pollen and separate ovuliferous inflorescences called ears that when fertilized yield kernels or seeds, which are botanical fruits - (source wikipedia)
Don't wanted to make this post boring without any important information being shared. Hope you liked the stroll and my little backyard. I thoroughly enjoyed the stroll and went back home very relaxed. Waiting for the harvest in next couple of weeks. Let see how the final outcomes looks like.

I remember those days when I used to take care of a corn farm. Planting, putting fertilizer, and cleaning the whole area so that the corn plants may grow faster
We never never use fertilizers in our field....we sowed them and let them grow. It tastes too good.
That is truly an abundance of corn. My parents are growing corn for the first time this year. It seems to be doing well.
I enjoyed the photos and learning about the proper names to the parts of the corn. The styles really look like hair ๐.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge ~
