Up Above The Hills - Local Bazaar [keyrings/cloth/fruits]

When you go out i.e travelling, it is important to enjoy the local bazaars. The reason I am using this specific words in context of market is to add some local dialect here. People up in the hills are more convenient at speaking bazaar than calling it market. Bazaar is originally a Persian word, and means "marketplace". It is mostly used all over the Middle East and in India too. Now when I searched Google Hindi name for market, it came out to be bazaar. May be it was gift of the Afghans, who ruled our country for most of time. There is a slight difference between English worket market and Persian word Bazaar.

A Market is formal, with specific places earmarked for specific type of selling or buying activity. A Bazaar is a natural outgrowth of the evening or weekly get together of producers and consumers

Bazaar is now a common word in Hindi, and quite popular. My recent travel to the kedarnath trek is mostly about exploring the place. And it allows me to see the places from a differrnt angle. And when I asked the hotel staff, about the market, they referred it as bazaar. So Here I am with differrnt bazaars set up in the hills and things to buy.

The first bazaar that appsared on our route was at Sonprayag When I walked around the Bazar area of thr town, I was fascinated with the atmosphere. It was quite and peaceful place and not like the usual city market full of chaos and noises. Set on the backdrop of besutiful hills, it appears to be very attractive. It has a wide roads and multiple shops on either side of it. While some flipping colour paper hanging up makes it more vibrant.

The life of the people seems to similar to what we use to see in cities. However the shopkeeper seems to talk less with visitor. They mean business and won't entertain you much. (that is personal observstion). The shops mostly selling warm cloth. The place expects major drop at night temperature. As we do not need to buy anything, we just run through the places during our evening walk.

Buying cloth at such a hilly places is always costly. As they include heavy trasportstion charges to make things available. We were worried about our trek. But thankfully we find many shops operative at every corner of the trekking route. Few selling noodles, to biscuits to chocolate. But one need to pay some extra for each of the item. When I get exhausted, I preferred a small plate of fruits and this costs me $0.50. It was a not a shop but a makeshift place.

This little fruit plate added fuel to my trek and I went ahead on my expedition to reach on to the top. I was not expecting any bazaar on the top. But reaching there found a narrow enclosure passage right in front of the temple. With temporary shops on either side of it. It was crowded as visitors were buying some mementos / souvenir's for their tough trip.

I walked through the narrow bazaars and found almost every shop selling identical items. It was a good place to buy small gifting items too. But again these shopkeepers charge little extra. As they are making thiings available at such a height. Here are some of the things that were selling up on the hills.

These are all temple souvenirs, made up of wooden piece. each of them costing around $2. Which is quite costly as compared to what it actually cost. You cannot expect a bargain at these shops. These are the only source of earning for them. Living at a such an height is like out of this world. These people were completelly cut out of rest of the world. They only know business by selling these little products.

I bought few of the key chain for my friends and family. But seeing these nice bazaar set up really made me appreciate their effort, in providing services to the customer.

Peace!!

Markets in hilly regions are quite different. Last year I lived in a hilly area. It sounded pretty good to me.

This tends to happen in places like this, maybe it's because of tourism...
