Turning moments into eternal memories - Portraying the unspoken !
India is multicultural nation. The presence of a wide variety of ethnic groups, languages, and religions makes India an interesting place to explore. It is always fascinating to explore the different cultures and tradition. I am sure the north Indians were not fully aware of all the tradition and customs of the south or vice versa. Same applies to east and west or central part of India. However, when you get a chance to explore some then I am not the one who gonna miss out on it. I always loves to explore the different culture and tradition of varied nature. Last month I witness one such event in my city. I know I am pretty late in bringing this up, but the fast paced life never let me to bring it up. It takes a lot of time in detailing every thing. But in the mean time I will share a little glimpses of the Annual festival at Ayappa temple.
The Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple is famous as a major global pilgrimage destination and for its sacred status as the abode of Lord Ayyappa
The main temple is situated in Kerela, but there are many temple across different cities of India. One such temple is in my city. It was pure joy to be part of their annual festival. The festival was celebrated by the Malayalam community and everyone was welcome to attend. Although there exist a language barriers, between us and them. They speak Malayalam while we are good in Hindi, still being part of their rituals is always fascinating. The annual festival was a 3 days even followed by mass kitchen that arranges food for all. I missed out on first days, but especially attended the 2ns day function in the evening. The function began by lighting 1000 Diya's (wicks). It was a huge minaret of Diya's right outside the main temple complex.

The base of this diyas structure is beautifully adorned with flowers. The temple staff used a steel staircase to lit all the wicks till the top.
The make the festival fruitfully and success. The temple authority has called upon special drummer and music player from Kerela. They were professional music player, who were specializes in these festivals. The expenses of their travelling and accommodation were borne by the temple authority. I wanted to interact with them, but the language barriers stopped me. They know how to play their musical instrument and at what rhythm. They were quite master in their field. The function began with conch sound followed by other musical instruments.
These musician group is perfect blend of old and young ones. The way young began the procession, the old followed them up matching with their rhythm. It was good to see some good music players playing in tandem.

Each of them complimenting each other perfectly. A true team spirit. They were not playing to entertain the crowd , but they were playing to please the Lord Ayappa. They keep playing their instrument for an hours non stop, they were sweating yet they were not distracted. They were completely showing their devotion.
Witnessing such thing is rare. Many people spend money in buying expensive rock band tickets, but these classical devotional music is free but very few could understand the value it adds to the occasion. I am lucky to be part of the annual function.
In good faith - Peace!!
Wow, I feel like you folks have a festival every week over there! That's pretty awesome. We need more festivities over here as well. I don't think football season really counts! Some might argue with me though!
