The graceful beauty of 'Rosy' pelicans !

One of the many things that caught my attention during my last visit to the local zoo and also made the visit a memorable was due to the big Rosy Pelican bird. Our old local zoo has very few animals species left. During my visit there were only few visitors and most of them were found at the Rosy Pelican cages. There were two of them, and soon as I get near to their iron gate, I was fascinated by their natural beauty.

There was a reason that zoo were formed in earlier days. Their main purpose was to make people familiar with the different species in the wildlife. I never seen the Pelican birds before, but the surprise visit was worthful after sighting this beautiful bird. The defining characteristic that gives them their name is the attractive rose-pink color that appears on their feathers.

It is one of the many gifts of nature that were on display. They were quite big in size. The combination of the soft pink on their plumage, bright yellow bills, and "humorous bright button eyes" creates a visually interesting and unique appearance.

Zoos educate the public about different animal species and their habitats. By connecting people with animals, zoos can inspire a greater appreciation and concern for wildlife and the natural world. I doubt if I can ever get hold of them in my camera if they were free. But the zoo make this possible and also introduced to this beautiful creatures. There were two of them and each one of them complimenting others.

The zoo taking care of their requirements had a small pond within their cages. While I was busy with taking pictures, both of them were busy preening their feathers. They do that for various reasons. But by doing so they were giving me multiple poses to snap. I never mind their activity, but they do preening with elegance.

I kept snapping them as many as I can, by standing to their enclosure. I am expecting to see them for the last time, as the worsening situation of the zoo might shift them to another place. I learned, that the Rosy pelicans are large, elegant birds with massive wingspans, making their flight appear graceful and effortless. Watching them so closely , I am sure they are too graceful when flying.
