Scared & Freightened [Changing color of Chameleon]

What seperate a chameleon from other lizards is their ability to change colors at different situation. They mostly change their color when they hunt or when they find some threat. Today, I had the oppurtunity to closely watch changing colors of a Chameleon.

This garden lizard , what we call them as chameleon changed it's skin color to green on finding me taking a snaps. It appears to be very frightened and scared. But to tell you the truth it was other way round. I was more frightened after finding this 1 feet long lizard in my cloths.

This was an unexpected encounter during the day. I have no clue how this made it to my cloth. It was resting on my towel, when I find it hanging from the other end. It scares me! At first I took it as a normal house lizard 🦎 but it's long tail told me another story. It was not aggressive for a good amount of time. I took the piece of cloth to outside, kept it on the floor. The little lizard did not responded. I watched it for more than 15 min, assuring it to be alive and then went on to snap few picture.

It was lying motionless for most of the time, which surprises me, as I did not injured it. But soon, the lizard started to move and finding me closer started to change it's color. The changing color pattern was unnoticeable. It was very smooth and fast. Look at the neck portion in these two picture, the neck appears to be turning Green.

And in no time, it was completelly turns Greenish. May be it was an alarm, or a way to scare me by reflecting anger. But instead of attacking, it looked at me and turns away in opposite side.

Instead of attacking me, or harming, the lizard shows some reflexes and move towards the opposite direction. In no time the reptile get back to it's original color. And started running. It was a dancing steps to the nearby wall.

It was quick to climb the wall and ran away from my sight. But by that time, I took few more closer shots.

It was an unexpected behavior. I read somewhere that these were non venomous reptile. But I am still clueless how it get inside my house and that too my cloths. It was sleeping nicely on my cloth, before I shook it to wake and it took time for him to realize. I had no intention to harm it, but we both had similar reaction. We were Scared and Freightened on finding each other.

Peace!!
