Manual Farming - Death of Agriculture [B&W era]

Our village is a sitiated in a remote areas, and people are yet to adapt with the recent innovation in agricultural field. Our farming is completelly depends upon the monsoon ranfall. All the farming areas were utilized only for a limited period of time during the year. Recently, during one of the conversation over a post @shawnnft suggested me to adapt to the most recent #hydrophonic way of farming. This is the latest technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution rather than soil. But looking at our currect status of agriculture. Our farmers will going to take many more decades.

As said, the location of our village is far behind reach. Into the wilderness, it takes more time for the marketing equipment reach here. Located in midst of the dense jungle, where light and electricy just made few years ago, adapting to new way of farming is a tough task. Atleast to make the farmers aware about the benefit of farming round the year.

Even though, there are tractors for cultivation, people have more faith on the traditional way of farming. The bullock and sickle are still in existence which are more orthodox way of farming. Most of the home have their own bullock and those who does not have they borrow from someone else.

traditional farming involves manual effort and used of animals to turn over the uppermost soil of the field, bringing fresh nutrients to the surface while burying weeds and crop remains to decay

As you will see, the farmer is trying to level the land after plouging it. To apply pressure on the leveller they made a young boy sit on to it. This is very risky, as sometime the bullocks get aggressive and may ran wayward which might bring injury to the boy riding over the leveller.

The man who maneuvering the bullocks are too strict as well. He know how to control their bullock. Many would see it as animal cruelty, but this is how the life has been for these farmers since so many years now. They only know doing farming in their own way.

They are aware of using of tractor and it's benefit, but the rising fuel prices made it impossible to afford. So they only left to rely on these poor animals to work for them. It took a good hour of hard work to plough the piece of land. And then levelling and then sowing. It take much more effort.

This piece remain un- ploughed due to shortage of rainfall this year. Now the farmers showing the mustard into. May be in coming days, I will give some nice picture. They watered the land by bringing water in tanks. And this how they are adapted to carry out their work. They are not ready to bring in changes because of the extra cost involved. By the time they introduced to new farming technique, the world will be looking for some other way of farming. But by the time keep enjoying our age old legacy, as it reminds people about struggle by our yesteryear.

Peace !!

It's been a long time since I've seen manual farming using cows like the one you show, in the past in my area I also did the same thing but used buffalo, currently there are some who do it manually but with their own power

Oooo ya we Always Evolving. It's always fascinating to see people still doing things the old and traditional way. Eventually tho I don't think the old ways can compete. Will just take some time for the country to be more developed and maybe the govt will also help sponsor to improve the technolgu and growth of the country. It's hard to say there's pros and cons for both ways

My paternal family were country people and I remember many photographs and images of those times... many years ago... and how the countryside was worked. Nowadays there is machinery and things like that but as you say you can't always afford it.

Beautiful black and white photographs, I love them!😍
