Luv & Kush tied Hanuman ji at this spot - Bade Hanuman Ji, Amritsar [Place with mythological event and popular for Langoor Mela]

A sudden trip to a place which is associated with any mythological events and story becomes quite fascinating. I was surprised to learn about one such myth when I made a visit to Bade Hanuman Ji temple in Amritsar. I went there unknowingly, but return with some good memory.

Visiting the actual location where a god is said to have intervened, or where a legendary battle occurred, allows people to experience a sense of awe and a lingering possibility of the extraordinary. Myths often explain natural phenomena or historical events that were once beyond human understanding. The story associated with the Bade Hanuman Ji in Amritsar is that of Lord Rama and Sita's twin sons, Luv and Kush, tying Lord Hanuman at this spot. The mythological event incident is related to Ramayana. Hanuman Ji has been worshipped through out India. The path to the Bade Hanuman ji temple is right adjacent to Durgiana Temple.

Prior to my visit , I had no idea of the mythological event of the place. It is only after making to the place I learned about it. One need to cover good 300 Meter distance on foot after entering the temple gate. There were small shops sidewys, which was closed during my early morning hours.

Luv and Kush tied up Hanuman at this place in Amritsar. Hanuman, seeking to understand the powerful boys who had captured the Ashwamedha horse, intentionally lost a battle with them, allowing them to capture him. He recognized them and knew that their power was a sign of their lineage, but they captured him to get answers to their questions about their father.

Hanuman ji was tied to a banyan tree. So incase expecting a big banyan tree inside the temple and rightly so, once I reach the temple, there was a giant tree.

The tree is now a place for worship for the devotees. The tree branches were covered with saffron cloth and mini flags which is associated with Hanuman ji. It is ritualistic as per the Hindu traditions. There is board hanging on the tree which read, Hanuman ji was tied here.

Right at the bottom, the devotees have a made a mini glass chamber and placed a Hanuman idol to worship.

Just adjacent to the Banyan tree, there is another temple made up of marble. The temple came up to mark the place of worship for Hanuman ji. Everyday, the priest pray and worship at the place. The place has tomb on top.

While there is always queue of devotees in front of the temple idol. The place appears to be very peaceful and devotees visit here to offer their prayers and worship the idol placed inside the temple.

This temple is very famous for annual "Langoor Mela". This festival is celebrated during Navratri. Devotees who have their wishes fulfilled vow to dress their children as "langoor" (symbolic monkeys) to honor Lord Hanuman. The temple building is still under construction phase. The outside structure renovating for a new look.

I spent good an hour at the place to experience the mystical power of Hanuman. The Bade Hanuman Mandir is located just 100 meters from the well-known Durgiana Temple. Having the ancient and mythological touch, devotees visit the place to get Hanuman ji blessing.

Ram Tirath Temple, also known as the Valmiki Ashram is the birth place of Luv and Kush. The ashram is hardly 14 km away from this Hanuman temple. But my tight schedule didn't let me to make to that place. But after knowing of the story, I would definitely make to the place someday.

Jai Bajrang Bali 🙏

In good faith - Peace!!
