The phrase is also a popular Hindi idiom and cultural reference associated with happiness, celebration and sweet moments. When there is good news, a celebration, or someone is happy, people often say "let's have something sweet" to enhance that happiness, often by eating sweets. Likewise, Dahi-chini is an age old tradition followed at mamy household to start new endeavors with something sweet. Dahi-chini (yogurt and sugar/jaggery) is an easily prepared, auspicious offering for good fortune.
