First beach visit of 2023

As I wrote earlier this week, Lola and I haven't been to the beach in a long while due to her damaging one of her cruciate ligaments. She's meant to take it easy ... but that's a little easier said than done!

I had an early night so was awake around 5am after a reasonably good sleep. It was the perfect opportunity to head to the beach early before too many other dog walkers were out. She saw a few of her friends but wasn't given the opportunity to go bonkers as she normally would. She seemed to enjoy herself all the same.

We arrived about 20 minutes before sunrise. It was a chilly old morning with a good strong breeze from the north.

There were a few large clumps of earth and matted grass in the surf. I'm assuming these are from the recent cliff falls further north at Hemsby. We seem to be suffering a lot of coastal erosion which is very sad as people are losing their homes.

Heading back north across the dunes after walking south down the beach. Bleak but still beautiful in my opinion. There's not much activity on the golf or race courses this time of the morning! The water tower was opened in 1932 so has been a landmark for nearly 100 years. It hasn't changed much, but the surrounding area has changed massively.

Lola's now curled up recovering after having her breakfast and I've warmed up after a nice mug go tea. Not too sure what the rest of the day is going to bring. I fancied a trip to the gym as I've not been in a while but I've the early signs of a gouty foot. I've started popping the tablets so hopefully they'll halt that so might be an option later. If it stays dry it might be a chilly one starting to prepare the garden for the warmer months. I'm pretty crap at getting ahead of the game on that front usually.

I was thinking it looked a bit bleak, but then you used the same word. I hope Lola is on the mend and can run around more soon.

Is that a racecourse in the last photo? I did look on Google Maps and I see Yarmouth has one, but I'm not sure exactly where you walk.

Yes, that's the one. The only thing that really sits between Caister and Yarmouth is the racecourse and a holiday camp. The race course used to be further south back in the 18th century. From this map it all looked a bit different! Nelson's monument (now in the middle of an industrial area), looked to be either in it or next to it.
