Will the COURAGE to ask for FREEDOM eventually make you HAPPY?

"The secret to happiness is freedom... And the secret to freedom is courage."

Never came across the quote until now and I must thank Thucydides for the inspiration and the electric currents he wired through my brain cells trying to crack what exactly I understood by the quote.

Truth is that just like the work of an artist that can be explained fully only by the artist who knew the inspiration behind his or her artwork, a quote can also be defined fully by the owner of the quote.
Nevertheless, there could be a lot of speculations about a particular artwork or quote.

I don't know you Mr. Thucydides but I'm thinking you got the inspiration behind your quote maybe from seeing slavery and maybe war times, so obviously, our thoughts might vary... I've never experienced a war anyways.

What Did I Understand?

I'll be channeling my thoughts through various angles, of course, they are all speculations of what they mean.. what I personally understand.

• 1st Approach:

Knowing Your Limits!!! What do I mean?

Happiness can only be achieved when you know your limits. We are all humans with limited ability... We ain't supermans nor superheroes even when you've started in movie as one, hehehe.

There are some certain life happenings that we can't take control of.. take for instance, sickness.

You can only try to live a healthier lifestyle and reduce the number of times you'll get sick, but, you can never do anything that will make you not to get sick entirely.

Another instance is aging. Irrespective of the way we all would love to be young forever, age gets to us at the due time and we get old.

So why get sad that you're getting old?

Why get sad that you're sick?

When you can't control these happenings.

• 2nd Approach:

Nothing comes to us at will... For anything we get in life, we have to ask and work for it... There's no free lunch in life.

You want to be happy? Ask for it.

The courage to ask for Freedom doesn't immediately make you free, but then, that singular courage gives you happiness that you fought for what you want. ....Freedom isn't easy

Nothing good comes easy they say.... For you to be happy and free despite all odds... Despite thousands of persons that wants you to be sad, you really need to be courageous and face the world with all you've got even when others let you down.

• 3rd Approach:

Are you free?

When you are not Free, you are entangled.. you are owned.

How then do you explain to your owner that you want to be happy whereas he wants you to be working the time you don't want to?

What if you're owned but still has the necessary life requirements to be happy?

You might be free but then you're not happy because you don't have friends... You don't have family members left...You don't have money.

That's exactly where I tend to question your quote, Mr. Thucydides; Kudos to you regardless👍

To my readers, regardless of what you're passing through, find place in your heart to generate happiness... You've got one life to live to waste it on sadness
