The Madrigal's house, characters and setting in the "Encanto" style || Lights and Disney in Medellín - Part 2

Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design community, I hope you are all very well. This time I bring you the second part of the visit to the Medellin 2022 Christmas Light Show which was inspired by the Disney movie "Enchantment" and as I told you in the first post this movie was made representing the Colombian culture and that made more exciting the lighting that is tradition for Colombians for more than half a century and I for the first time I could visit it with my family, @parauri and @alandesign, they are my mother and my little brother, who is now with me here in Medellin.

Backtracking a bit, in the first part I showed you the attractions of this spectacular light show over the Medellín River at the central point of the Alumbrado which was in Parques del Río. For this visual spectacle the government of the Department of Antioquia moves a lot of money and human team work without skimping on expenses because this work is complex, large and represents a millionaire investment for tourism. Now I bring you more of what I saw in Parques del Rio, where there were the representative figures of the movie, there was the house of the Madrigal family, the characters and other representations that recreate the atmosphere of the movie and if you were able to see it you will recognize them. When you see the new photos that I bring you, you will agree that it was worth all the effort put into this mega work, because it was amazing. The work was in charge of the Colombian architect Juliana Londoño Álvarez, who led the Lighting Design Team of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) with great responsibility from the planning and execution of the work in conjunction with Disney to ensure the replicas of the figures of the film.

Saludos amigos de Hive y de la comunidad Architecture+Design, deseo que estén todos muy bien. En esta ocasión les traigo la segunda parte de la visita al Alumbrado navideño de Medellín 2022 que estuvo inspirado en la película "Encanto" de Disney y como les dije en la primera publicación esta película se hizo representando la cultura colombiana y eso hizo más emocionante el alumbrado que es tradición para los colombianos desde hace más de medio siglo y yo por primera vez pude visitarlo con mi familia, @parauri y @alandesign, ellos son mi madre y mi hermanito, que ahora está conmigo aquí en Medellín.

Repasando un poco, en la primera parte les mostré las atracciones de este espectacular show de luces sobre el Río Medellín en el punto central del Alumbrado que estaba en Parques del Río. Para este espectáculo visual el gobierno del Departamento de Antioquia mueve una gran cantidad de dinero y equipo humano de trabajo sin escatimar en gastos porque esta obra es compleja, de gran tamaño y representa una inversión millonaria para el turismo. Ahora les traigo más de lo que vi en Parques del Río, donde estaban las figuras representativas de la película, estaba la casa de la familia Madrigal, los personajes y otras representaciones que recrean el ambiente de la película y si la pudiste ver los reconocerás. Cuando vean las nuevas fotos que les traigo estarán de acuerdo que valió la pena todo el esfuerzo puesto en esta mega obra, porque fue alucinante. El trabajo estuvo a cargo de la arquitecta colombiana Juliana Londoño Álvarez, quien dirigió al Equipo de Diseño del Alumbrado de Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) con mucha responsabilidad desde la planificación y ejecución de la obra en conjunto con Disney para garantizar las réplicas de las figuras de la película.

The Madrigal's house

When we arrived at the Alumbrado, the first thing we saw was the gigantic rear facade of the Madrigal's house fully illuminated and colorful on the edges of the walls, ceilings, windows and balconies with many LED lights. Already that alone was a spectacle that excited us and without knowing yet all that we would see on the other side.

Al llegar al Alumbrado lo primero que vemos es la gigantesca fachada posterior de la casa de los Madrigal totalmente iluminada y colorida en los bordes de las paredes, techos, ventanas y balcones con muchas luces LED. Ya solo eso era un espectáculo que nos emocionó y sin saber todavía todo lo que veríamos por el otro lado.

The house was the biggest attraction of the whole Alumbrado. It was a mega children's construction with all the details of the magical house from the movie, it was a perfect work of art. When we passed to the other side was the main facade that looked like a hallucination that sparkled with all those oversized lights and decorations. It looked like a magical place, living up to the movie.

La casa era la atracción más grande de todo el Alumbrado. Era una mega construcción infantil con todos los detalles de la casa mágica de la película, era una obra de arte perfecta. Cuando pasamos al otro lado estaba la fachada principal que se veía como una alucinación que destellaba con todas esas luces y adornos de gran tamaño. Se veía como un lugar mágico, haciendo honor a la película.

I am going to give you a curious fact and that is that here in Colombia the Casa Encanto exists in real life. When I read about it I was amazed and well, I hope that one day we can visit it especially for my brother.

Les voy a dar un dato curioso y es que aquí en Colombia la Casa Encanto existe en la vida real. Cuando leí sobre eso me asombré y bueno, espero que un día podamos visitarla especialmente por mi hermano.

The characters

The presence of the Mirabel-inspired figures and the main characters of the movie were welcoming inside the park, all those illuminated dolls were very tall and fluorescent ornaments. The characters were sculptures with an approximate height of 10 meters, a little less or a little more but you can see that they were of great size.

La presencia de las figuras inspiradas en Mirabel y los personajes principales de la película daban la bienvenida al interior del parque, todos esos muñecos alumbrados eran adornos muy altos y fluorescentes. Las muestras de los personajes eran esculturas con una altura aproximada de 10 metros, un poco menos o un poco más pero ustedes pueden ver que eran de gran tamaño.

Tourists strolled and took pictures among those friendly Disney giants standing on a concrete base, fastened with metal plates and high-strength screws.

Los turistas se paseaban y tomaban fotos entre aquellos colosos amigables de Disney que estaban sobre una base de concreto, fijadas con platinas metálicas y tornillos de alta resistencia.

Figures of tropical fauna

If you thought that was all, there is more to marvel at because there is the butterfly garden and several sparkling figures of tropical fauna animals that complement the luminous landscape of the movie set in Colombia. The planning for this public attraction took into account all the details to make an excellent recreation of the movie Encanto. A lot of material was used to make this Christmas gift for the inhabitants of Medellín a reality.

Si creías que era todo, hay más para maravillarse porque está el jardín de mariposas y varias figuras destellantes de animales de la fauna tropical que complementan el paisaje luminoso de la película ambientada en Colombia. La planificación para esta atracción pública tomó en cuenta todos los detalles para hacer una excelente recreación de la película Encanto. Se empleo mucho material para hacer realidad este regalo de navidad para los habitantes de Medellín.

As you can see everything is very nice and surprising because of the complexity to make so many details on a large scale using materials that are not complex in my opinion, but I will tell you about them in the next publication, to be able to contemplate in part this wide and extraordinary iconic work of Medellin.
