Greetings friends of Hive, I hope you are well. A series of street photos is what I bring you from different places and times in Medellin, Colombia to join the Visualshots contest because I think it is an interesting proposal and a challenge I had to take on. Capturing urban life in such a congested city is fascinating and with my iPhone in hand I have gotten some shots that I am archiving and this contest is an opportunity to show them. As you will see, these photos have an effect called focal zoom that I use to highlight the scene or elements that are important in the photo and you can see a sweeping effect around the lens that is highlighted with the zoom. Also playing with brightness and contrast helped me to highlight the street scenes I show you below.

Saludos amigos de Hive, espero que estén bien. Una serie de fotos de calle es lo que les traigo desde diferentes lugares y tiempos en Medellín, Colombia para unirme al concurso de Visualshots porque creo que es una propuesta interesante y un reto que debía asumir. Captar la vida urbana en una ciudad tan congestionada es fascinante y con mi iPhone en mano he conseguido algunas tomas que voy archivando y este concurso es una oportunidad para mostrarlas. Como verán, estas fotos tienen un efecto llamado zoom focal que uso para resaltar la escena o los elementos que son importantes en la foto y se puede ver un efecto de barrido al rededor del objetivo que queda resaltado con el zoom. También jugar con el brillo y el contraste me ayudaron para destacar las escenas de calle que les muestro a continuación.

IN THE MORNING

Dog walkers:

In Medellín it is very common to see people walking with pets in the parks and everywhere you can see the great human love for them.

POR LA MAÑANA

Los que pasean con perros:

En Medellín es muy común ver a las personas paseando con mascotas en los parques y por todas partes se puede ver el gran amor humano por ellas.

On a walkway:

There are still people who use the footbridges over the avenues. They are good citizens!

En una pasarela:

Quedan personas que usan las pasarelas sobre las avenidas. !Son buenos ciudadanos¡

On the bus:

Everyone travels to different destinations, but many go to their places of work and others to their places of study.

En el bus:

Todos viajan hacia diferentes destinos, pero muchos van para sus lugares de trabajo y otros para sus sitios de estudio.

AT NOON

The one selling fruits:

This is one of many vendors that walk the streets of Medellin offering fruits in the neighborhoods and a lady takes the opportunity to buy some, while looking at the tempting mangos 🙂

AL MEDIO DÍA

El que venden frutas:

Este es uno de tantos vendedores que recorren las calles de Medellín ofreciendo frutas en los barrios y una señora aprovecha para comprar algunas, mientras mira los tentadores mangos 🙂

The flower seller:

In the distance was a rather old man and as much as I hurried the pace I did not reach him but I could have a picture of his journey. This flower seller has a lot of energy because as you can see he is riding a tricycle loaded with flowers. A man about 70 years old, with a lot of strength.

El vendedor de flores:

A lo lejos iba un señor bastante mayor y por más que apuré el paso no lo alcancé pero una foto pude tener de su travesía. Ese vendedor de flores tiene mucha energía porque como ven va en un triciclo cargado de flores. Un hombre como de 70 años, con mucha fuerza.

The ice cream vendor:

Another older gentleman, they call him Mr. BonIce, at noon he walks the streets offering ice cream of that brand. He walks slowly in search of more customers after selling ice cream at the entrance of the school where the children affectionately named him Mr. BonIce.

El vendedor de helados:

Otro señor mayor, le dicen el señor BonIce, al medio día recorre las calles ofreciendo helados de esa marca. Camina pausado en busca de más clientes después de estar vendiendo helados en la entrada de la escuela donde los niños le pusieron cariñosamente ese nombre, Sr. BonIce.

IN THE AFTERNOON

A street and a person:

This street separates the houses of a neighborhood from its park, as you can see there is a green area and in the distance I see someone coming walking.

POR LA TARDE

Una calle y una persona:

Esta calle separa las casas de un barrio de su parque, como pueden ver hay una zona verde y a lo lejos veo que viene alguien caminando.

The walker enters the park:

The person in the distance was going to the park and looks in a hurry. Many people use this path to cut across the road to the other side of the neighborhood.

El caminante entra al parque:

La persona a lo lejos iba para el parque y se ve apurado. Muchas personas usan este camino para cortar la ruta hasta el otro lado del barrio.

Working on the road:

In Medellín it is common to see employees of the Mayor's Office working on repair works on public roads.

Trabajando en la vía:

En Medellín es común ver a empleados de la Alcaldía trabajando en obras de reparación en la vía pública.

IN THE LATE AFTERNOON

Rush hour:

From 4:30 onwards, traffic increases in the streets of Medellín. The rush hour begins for the return to the houses. Cars and motorcycles abound in the avenues.

AL FINAL DE LA TARDE

La hora pico:

A partir de las 4:30 aumenta el transito en las calles de Medellín. Empieza la hora pico por el retorno a las casas. Los carros y las motos abundan en las avenidas.

Pedestrians waiting for their turn to cross:

A woman with her children waits for the pedestrian traffic light to change from red to green so they can cross the street.

Peatones esperando turno para cruzar:

Una mujer con sus hijos espera que el semáforo peatonal cambie la luz roja a verde para poder cruzar la calle.

The best time for cabs:

There is more demand for cab service because buses pass full of passengers.

La mejor hora para los taxis:

Hay más demanda de servicio de taxis porque los buses pasan llenos de pasajeros.

We are all in a hurry:

It is also common to see people cross themselves as they hurry past the front of churches while ignoring the pain of their fellow man suffering at the doors of the temples, but this is part of the international culture. We are all in a hurry.

Todos tenemos mucha prisa:

También es común ver a los habitantes persignarse cuando pasan apurados por el frente de las iglesias mientras ignoran el dolor del prójimo que sufre en las puertas de los templos, pero esto es parte de la cultura internacional. Todos tenemos mucha prisa.
