Lights and Disney in Medellín - Part 1

Greetings hive friends, I am happy to be back among architecture lovers, although I was away for a while but the good son is coming home and well, I have not been totally away because every time I can I enjoy the posts in this great community for architecture and design. In my last post I did in January about the Park of Lights in Medellin, here in Colombia you can see that in the comments I told my friend @storiesoferne that I would bring some very special night photos in the "next" days and look how days turned into months 😬 but better late than never because what I bring you is something really worth seeing in this first part.

I will show you what was the Medellin Christmas Alumbrado, a work and public attraction that I was able to enjoy with my family, @parauri and @alandesign because they came to Colombia last year. The lighting moves Colombians, both the government and its inhabitants and also international tourism and more in this last one that was made last December and lasted until the second week of January this year 2023 where the inspiration was the Disney movie "Enchantment", this animated film takes place in places in Colombia, so you can imagine the excitement of the people, especially the Antioqueños with this large-scale luminous work that covered several areas including the Medellin riverbed that runs through the entire city.

Saludos amigos de hive, estoy feliz de estar de nuevo entre los amantes de la arquitectura, aunque estuve un tiempo alejado pero el buen hijo vuelve a casa y bueno, no he estado totalmente alejado porque cada vez que puedo disfruto de las publicaciones en esta genial comunidad para la arquitectura y diseño. En mi última publicación que hice en enero sobre el Parque de las Luces en Medellín, aquí en Colombia pueden ver que en los comentarios le dije al amigo @storiesoferne que traería unas fotos nocturnas muy especiales en los "próximos" días y miren como los días se convirtieron en meses 😬 pero más vale tarde que nunca porque lo que les traigo es algo que realmente vale la pena ver en esta primera parte.

Les mostraré lo que fue el Alumbrado navideño de Medellín, una obra y atracción pública que pude disfrutar con mi familia, @parauri y @alandesign porque llegaron a Colombia el año pasado. El alumbrado mueve a los colombianos, tanto al gobierno como a sus habitantes y también el turismo internacional y más en este último que se hizo en diciembre pasado y que duró hasta la segunda semana de enero de este año 2023 donde la inspiración fue la película de Disney "Encanto", esta película animada se desarrolla en lugares de Colombia, así que se imaginaran la emoción de la gente, especialmente de los antioqueños con esta obra luminosa de gran envergadura que abarcó varias zonas incluyendo el cauce del río Medellín que atraviesa toda la ciudad.

The entire Medellín river was illuminated with decorations made with LED lights of different colors recreating many flowers and the scenes of the movie Encanto. Empresas Publicas de Medellin - EPM is in charge of this event installing the lights and all the trellis needed, using multiple materials especially steel wires to form and hold the flowers and all the figures on the Medellin river giving a magical and floating appearance.

Todo el río Medellín estaba iluminado con decoraciones hechas con luces LED de diferentes colores recreando muchas flores y los escenarios de la película Encanto. Empresas Publicas de Medellín - EPM es quien se encarga de este acontecimiento instalando las luces y todo el enrejado que se necesita, usando múltiples materiales especialmente guayas de acero para formar y sostener las flores y todas las figuras sobre el río Medellín dando una apariencia mágica y flotante.

Among the floating figures in the Medellin River there were also platforms decorated and with audiovisual animation in the form of holograms of the characters of the movie, this was a visual attraction that caught everyone's attention and children were fascinated, like my brother @alandesign 😁

Those floating platforms and all the figures of the lighting were definitely a great attraction and a millionaire investment that was worth it although there was criticism for the investment made by the government of Colombia in the Alumbrado. These platforms alone show the care for every detail, with a height of 7 meters and a width of 5 meters and 16 meters long according to the reviews of the news, were a great attraction. I believe that tourism is very important to increase the resources of a nation and in this lighting was invested so that with a lot of technology everyone had a Christmas present.

Esas plataformas flotantes y todas las figuras del alumbrado definitivamente eran una gran atracción y una inversión millonaria que valió la pena aunque hubo críticas por la inversión que hizo el gobierno de Colombia en el Alumbrado. Solo estas plataformas dicen el esmero por cada detalle, que con una altura de 7 metros y de ancho 5 metros con 16 metros de largo de acuerdo a las reseñas de los noticieros, fueron una gran atracción. Yo creo que el turismo es muy importante para aumentar los recursos en una nación y en este alumbrado se invirtió para que con mucha tecnología todos tuvieran un regalo de navidad.

When we see this display of lights we think about the consumption of electricity but Empresas Públicas de Medellín - EPM talked about this point to give peace of mind because Medellín is recognized for its commitment as Ecocity with the planet and although the lighting had millions of LED bulbs and kilometers of LED light hose to all this infrastructure are added elements that help the environment that effectively ration energy consumption and if this was so it is a relief for the planet and for those who enjoy the lighting.

Al ver este despliegue de luces pensamos en el consumo de energía eléctrica pero Empresas Públicas de Medellín - EPM habló sobre este punto para dar tranquilidad porque Medellín se reconoce por su compromiso como Ecociudad con el planeta y aunque el alumbrado contó con millones de bombillas LED y kilómetros de manguera luminosa LED a toda esta infraestructura se suman elementos que ayudan al medio ambiente que con eficacia racionan el consumo de energía y si esto fue así es un alivio para el planeta y para los que disfrutamos el alumbrado.

On the banks of the river you could see luminous palm trees that were approximately 20 meters high, because some were taller than others, with a very minimal difference and gave a special touch to the Christmas decoration that rose in the cold nights of Medellin.

En las orillas del río se podían ver palmeras luminosas que median aproximadamente 20 metros de altura, porque se veían que había unas más altas que otras, con una diferencia muy mínima y daban un toque especial a la decoración navideña que se alzaba en las noches fría de Medellín.

This was an unforgettable light show and since I was in Medellin I had never gone but with my family in Colombia I went and my brother was happy, but in other posts later I will continue to show you other attractions of the Alumbrado de Medellin and I hope it won't be months to bring you more of this impressive public work, I promise.
