What makes the Tapolca Lake Cave remarkable is the underground lake that flows through it. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the cave by taking a boat ride on the lake, which creates a mesmerizing experience. The cave itself is approximately 3.3 kilometers long, and the water depth varies between 2 to 17 meters.

Only a small part can be visited by the

The cave formation dates back several million years, and it was formed by the dissolution of limestone rocks by underground water. The water flowing through the cave originates from nearby springs and is a combination of rainwater and thermal water.

The temperature inside the cave remains relatively constant throughout the year, ranging from 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. The air humidity is high due to the presence of the lake, creating a unique microclimate inside the cave.

The Tapolca Lake Cave is open to everyone, and guided tours are available for visitors who want to pay for that. It is easy to explore its stunning underground environment without a tour as well. You can visit the museum and the cave with the same ticket. The boat ride allows visitors to admire the cave's rock formations, while gliding on the calm waters of the underground lake.

This one especially is surreal there is no bats and no fishes because there is no natural entrance to it.

Very cool. Almost worth a trip to Hungary by itself.

Hungary is always worth a trip. If you ever want to go I could possibly help you with accommodation in that area. You might even be able to stay at our house if my parents are not spending their time there it stands empty. In summer of course the house is occupied but from late September to the beginning of October, it gets more quiet and the weather is still nice around that time.

Wow, that's very generous. I've never been to Hungary but it's on my list - I don't even live that far away. Will definitely keep your offer in mind. In the mean time I wish you a great summer
