Up close with the herbs

The herbs like marjoram, basil, lemongrass, and sage have all been planted in larger pots and are living outside. Seems like they are adjusting to their new homes quite well. All of the plants are in fresh dirt by Foxfarm, so no need to fertilize them for awhile as the mix already has a few months worth of nutrients in the soil.

Most of these are basil plants, all different kinds. We have a seed pack with a variety of cultivars. So we started one of each in their own pots.

I think we will get bigger basil plants this year, as last year we put a few in each pot and I think that stunted them.

We should have probably labeled which each kind is. But its easily ID'ed by touching and smelling the leaves.. lol

Growing the purple variety as well, hope it stays purple this year.

It has been a little chilly in the last few days.. getting down to the low 40s F. So I think there has been a little leaf damage from it.

Last year the purple basil started like this, and then turned green.. Curious if it does that again.

The marjoram started bolting, but when I cut it back it produced tons of leaves again and are probably ready for a trimming soon.

The sage has been slow growing, but it is now producing lots of leaves.. We have used it on a pizza and in soups. I liked it more in the soups personally. Kind of weird on the pizza.

Lemongrass has been started this year, a first growing it in Virginia.

Lastly is some what we think is celery, we just translated them as I missed them on the first planting from the grow room.

Last year I discovered rosemary. It sat in a pot indoors all winter and only a few weeks ago I took it outside. I must say that it is hardy and survived the winter well. I also planted green and purple basil, as soon as I get around to it, I will make a post about my herbs. Have a nice day 😊

I never seen Purple Basil! Didn't even know it existed until I saw your post today! Very cool, does it taste different than regular basil?

Oh nice, yeah many plants come in purple variations.. another cool purple variation is with purple cauliflower.

Hmm I do not think so, the red and purple basils seem the same to me in flavor. But I think adding different colored greens has its benefits in general.

@steevc & Co.,

Do the right thing. We are only sharing the truth—please review what we present before dismissing it or calling us liars. Whether you like it or not, you are involved, and YOU CAN HELP US. You know what needs to be done, and don’t you dare tell us to go elsewhere. Why don’t you take action?

WHEN THEY STOP, WE STOP SHARING THE TRUTH.

SPEAK UP. MAKE NOISE. TAKE A STAND.

  • TURN OFF THE BUILDAWHALE SCAM FARM
  • STOP THE BAD DOWNVOTES
  • STOP PLAYING WITH PEOPLE’S LIVELIHOODS

Key Issues That Demand Immediate Attention:

The problems are glaring, undeniable, and corrosive to the Hive ecosystem. They must be addressed without delay:

  • Downvote abuse
  • Farming schemes
  • Speaking disrespectfully to others
  • Encouraging people to avoid certain users out of personal dislike
  • Self-voting with alt accounts
  • Self-funding projects through self-votes
  • Promoting games that don’t even exist (LOL)

These practices do not just harm individual users—they undermine the very foundation of Hive, eroding trust and poisoning the community. Such actions are not only unethical but outright destructive.

The blockchain data tells the story plainly and clearly. We are not fabricating these claims; we are merely presenting what is already visible for all to see. As we’ve repeatedly urged @themarkymark & Co—the solution is simple: STOP.

SO PLEASE STOP. It’s time to do what’s right for Hive and its community. Why cling to practices that harm others? Power down, step away, and let Hive thrive as it was meant to. You bring nothing positive to this ecosystem.

THOSE WHO ARE WATCHING—THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU.

PLEASE STOP.

basil flowers make for a nice tea when paired with mint. ripping them off keeps the plant from going bitter too, although I'm sure that's common knowledge

I cut my celery stalk (bought from the store) about 4 inches from the bottom and planted it, I now have a new stalk of celery growing. I put a piece of screen over it until it took off.

Your herbs are looking good.

I love purple basil - but then I like purple vegetables full stop! And handy tip - sage soaked in vinegar for a few weeks makes the best medicine for winter sore throats as a gargle. Next level.

Oh nice, I will keep that in mind. thanks for letting me know about that use for sage.

Strolling through a herb garden and inhaling the different odours is a true olfactory experience. The experience is only surpassed when they land on the plate to delight the palate.
Basil feels much more at home in a bed between tomatoes, cucumbers, and dill than all alone in a pot.

They sure do all smell great.. and indeed we are looking forward to using them i our cooking really soon. Going to let them grow some more before we start taking cuttings for cooking.

Ah yeah, well this year we wanted to give them a pot all to themselves to see how they do.

Don't forget to harvest regularly so that the plants become really bushy. With basil in particular, always pinch the upper buds before flowering. Then nothing will stand in the way of your enjoyment.

How do you know how much nutrients are left in the soil? I feel like I get plants, they grow to a certain size and then start dying, and I would imagine the soil nutrients are partly to blame. Do you keep a compost pile and add to the soil occasionally or add fertilizer at predetermined intervals? Apologies if these are maybe dumb questions, but you seem to have a lot of experience with this kind of thing.

Since I am using Foxfarm ocean forest soil it already has nutrients in it for many months.. But eventually we will start feeding them using fish fertilizer and other liquid fertilizers.

I have never used any liquid fertilizers before, so perhaps that has been part of the problem!
