The hummingbirds are back

I put out the feeder about a week ago and it looks like these little birds have noticed. They are quite brave, I was taking pictures of my cactus when one fly right by me. It buzzed right over my head, I could hear its wings flutter by... And I got a few shots before it noticed or cared I was there before retreating to a near by power line.

The feeder is almost empty now, the winds have been knocking it around and its been getting lots of attention. Soon more will show up and all start feeding together.

Looks like a male based on its red plumage under its head.

Its thinking about landing.

Hovering there, maybe it sees me and is thinking if it wants to stop and drink some sugar water now. Or wait for me to leave.

Well I guess its hunger proved too strong and it stayed for a few seconds to have a drink. I do my best to stay still so it does not fly away.

Then it flew away, but not too far away. It is sitting up on a near by power line. We can see it in the upper right part of the picture.. It will probably wait there until I leave.

I may get a second feeder, but for now they seem to be working together (mostly) to feed. And I have seen at least four or five on a single feeder before.

Your actions are really very praiseworthy because you provide food to be eaten by birds

looks like you need a camera mounted on a tripod aimed at the feeder and use remote trigger if they are that shy .

Man I love those little buzzing helicopters!🚁. I saw a few infographics this week tracking the migration of hummingbirds north and have seen a couple sightings around these parts.

I need to dig my feeders out and hopefully capture a couple of them this summer.

Where one is, others are bound to come, and I hope that you will soon have a whole flock of hummingbirds.

Wow! You actually mounted a feeder for birds that aren’t yours?

That’s quite noble, well done friend.

I grew up in Australia and we don't have hummingbirds there... Now I live in Mexico and they're still fascinating to me. They almost seem like a mythical creature

Out on my buddy's ranch we planned tobacco and they really love the flowers. You just have to be careful because tobacco can take over your whole yard

Thanks for the photos, take care

Man, these birds are flapping their wings so fast. Could you do a slow-motion video? I've seen these kind of videos on YouTube and it was a lot of fun.

What a delightful encounter! Hummingbirds are such magical little creatures, and it's amazing to hear how close one flew to you. The photo is lovely too; you've captured its delicate beauty perfectly. Nature's little moments like these make life so special. Thanks for sharing this!
