Snow day in Virginia

About a week before the snow storm showed up, they were calling for many inches of accumulation and ice. We worked hard to stock up the wood by the furnace, and by the time the snow storm showed up we were well prepared. The wood furnace has done great to keep the homestead warm. And I got some great pictures of the landscape after the storm passed through my farm.

The amount of ice that has formed was really impressive, the day after the snow storm it got above freezing for a short time, turning everything into water and then froze back into ice. Giving the trees many icicles.

When the sun hits them just right it really looks amazing.

Other areas the snow was heavy enough to stick around on the trees.

I will need to walk around and see if any branches fell after this storm, it must have happened around where I live as the power went out for a short time. Luckily our generators and solar array kept everything online.

The holly trees are covered in berries right now, cool seeing them mixed in with the snow.

Many evergreens are covered in snow, their leaves hold on to it well. It is always cool seeing the contrast from the bare trees with just ice and the evergreens holding onto all that snow.

Looking through the forest it all looks so magical... also dangerous as those trees could fall at any time.

Seeing the landscape far away, it really looks like a winter wonderland.

I was expecting to see more animals, but they seem to be taking cover until the weather improves.

The solar panels seemed to have handled the snow load okay.

The trees all around are quite frozen over.

I wonder when all the ice will thaw, they are calling for really cold weather for the next week or so.

For me, I am not used to snow accumulation. Where I have lived in the past it does snow, but usually does not "stick" so this is all new to me. I guess moving up further north will have that in the local surroundings.

Good evening my brother ♥️

Wow this is really beautiful photography, tiny berries with the addition of white snow, it's really beautiful to see.

Snow makes everything freeze and that's my latest experience when seeing some of the pictures from your photography
It's really amazing, have a nice day my brother 🤗

Good morning dear friend @solominer how are you?

What a great job you have done preparing the firewood and stockpiling before the snow storm arrived; thanks to that you have stayed warm and cozy.

The photographs you have taken are really beautiful and magical, the fog makes the landscape look different.

Beautiful photographs. Have a beautiful afternoon.

The snow! It reminds me when I lived in a small village on the mountain. The first year I started to live there in November the village looked like Narnia. ^_^

Hello Mr. @solominer
What good news to know that the snow storm did not affect them thanks to the fact that they had enough cut logs and piled up near the stove, whenever one prepares for these things they turn out well
What beautiful landscapes, I love how the snow looks on the treetops

Your photos convey a lovely sense of winter. Snow flakes are falling here as I type this, but are melting when they land.
I have visited Leesburg VA. I was able to walk to the Potomac from where I was staying.

Thanks, oh cool.. yeah we get a lot of snow but it rarely sticks so nice to finally have some that hung around..

oh nice, hope you had fun there.

Wow, that is quite a bit of ice. It reminds me of the storms we used to get up this way. Not so much lately. We were down in Ohio and we made sure to get out of the path on Saturday night before it rolled through. I've got some friends down in Winchester VA, but I haven't seen any of their photos from the weekend. My niece is heading to Radford next year, so I will likely be making some road trips down that way during softball season!

I don't know what the feeling of so much snowfall is for you, but for me, since the weather changes here a step before the snowfall, all these pictures are as beautiful as heaven. The snow on the trees with berries looks literally like cotton. I'm sure there will be some challenges in living in that place but this beauty is the reward for all that. :)

Hehe it sure does, and yeah can make things more difficult but if I plan ahead of the storm its not so bad.

It appears heaven, but living in such cold weather takes a lot of strength. Its only 12° outside with strong wind forced me inside the blanket pretty early. But I love to see such beautiful views through naked eyes.

Some amazing pictures of the scenery after the snowstorm that hit your area, it seems that the leaves of this petition will freeze in the next few days, fortunately you have prepared pieces of wood a few days ago for the furnace in your house to keep the contents of the room warm.

I really like this image:

Snow must be a make-up of nature. It has added color to nature and made it more beautiful. The dogwood tree and its fruits look wonderful.

Waoo!!! Snowy season 🌨, it doesn't affect you solar panels at all @solominer ?? How pretty is the snow in pictures, they say it's no big deal, but I always appreciate the pictures of many in the worldmappin community because they look great.

This stage I don't like much I have no flowering on the plants 🪴 and no progress, let alone getting seeds, let's go aver how comes this year the spring !!!

Greetings bro and good night 🫡😉🙏🏻🇨🇺 !!!!

Waoo!!

Saludos bro y buenas noches 🫡😉🙏🏻🇨🇺!!!

Ah yeah things are pretty slow around here right now as well.

Wow, this is amazing. Looks like tiny cottons on top of the trees. Seeing the tiny icicles on top dropping when hit by the sun and when the snow comes it turns into ice again is what I've been wanting to see. Thanks for sharing how lovely your place is.

Finally, a landscape where you can believe the words 'I'm just putting on my winter coat'.
If we're going to talk about the four seasons, then they should represent themselves accordingly!😉

The shot of the holly is my favorite. Ice is so pretty in the sun, but does so much damage to trees...

Sure does, I tried my best to capture the moment when the light is shining through all the ice on the trees as it looks really pretty.

So true, soon I will have more firewood to collect from the damaged trees :-)

When I was a teen my dad moved us from Fl to MO and our first winter was like this except there was no snow we had 4 inches of ice on the ground, and there was ice on everything. They said it was the worst ice storm in 30 years.

Be careful walking on it.
Dad made cleats by putting screws through the bottom of an old pair of shoes so he could walk on the ice.

Damn ice is the worst.. luckily its been mostly powder here.. but some ice none the less.

Oh that is smart...

This is beautiful indeed! This is what I call... I agree with you that this is a winter wonderland. It's really so beautiful to watch, to see the view of winter, snow everywhere, and I can see that you were well prepared. I remember reading posts about you gathering wood and the rest, you were preparing for a time like this.
Great photos.

damn that looks cold lol did you have to clean off the panels or the heat they where producing kept them clean? That's one thing I worry about a bit is how much production and cleaning of them I'd have to do for them up north.

Wow what a beautiful wintery scene you got there. I can't quite work out how deep the snow actually is but you have clearly had a lot.

The icicles on the trees look quite magical I have to say. What a unique and beautiful effect the melted and refrozen snow gives. Winter looks so much better in rural areas than urban ones don't you think? Any more snow on the way or is that it for now?

I hope the solar panels don't crack in the freezing temperatures, is that a possibility or are they resilient to those kind of conditions?

Snow must create some pretty tough challenges for the farm, I hope you're battling through.
