Pins forming on Pink Oyster Mushroom kit - Macro Photography

Just after a few days of opening up this kit I am seeing big changes. The area of the bag its growing in that I cut open is now changing to a bright pinkish red. And I think I am seeing the start of the fruit that will be forming on this fungi. Its crazy to just see the surface of this organism change within a few days. Going from a white color to a bright pink was quite impressive. And I think this is just the start, things should speed up and get even more impressive shortly.

I am glad I bought the kit, making use of it for my project it is also great to see it how it acts as a kit. Its been simple enough, cut the top open, scratch the surface just a little, put it by a window with indirect sunlight and then give it some water once in awhile.. Let it do the rest itself.

I leave it by the window and give it a few dozen sprits of water every day on the open area.

We can see some of the grain on top but besides that its all mushroom.

The bag stops it from fruiting out further and keeps the area just to where I cut the bag open fruiting.

Not sure how long it takes to go from these little guys to full brown mushrooms. Maybe a few weeks.

Being my first kit I really have no idea the time line of these. And I am sure its different per the type of mushroom.

Getting an even closer look we can see each of the pins forming off of the mycelium.

One focused more on the center of the mass.

We can even see the mycelial strands covering the surface of the mushrooms.

Hopefully they are happy with their window spot and getting enough water. But sure look happy for a fungus.

Further down the bag its all mycelium, but quite alive. My thermal camera showing heat coming off the entire block. You can see that in my recent thermal camera post.

It still looks something like strawberry cheesecake to me.. hehe promise not to eat them until it fruits tough :-)

Giving it some water before leaving it be we can see how the water lays on the surface. It will absorb it quickly. Giving it a little water twice a day is what the kit calls for. I guess it works up quite the hunger transforming from a little block into a giant fruiting mushroom wrapped in plastic.

I will post updates as it grows, right now its just starting to form mushrooms known as "pins" but soon it will resemble much more of what we know as a mushroom fruit.

Hello @solominer your mushroom kit is quite interesting and educational.

I admire the fact you are interested in a live, growing mushroom.

Where did you learn about getting this mushroom kit?

I found them while researching growing Pink Oyster mushrooms.. On Amazon they sell kits like this and it came up during my search.

Ah, glad you found my post interesting. I will do updates soon, as its has grown some more since this post.

Cool! These kits are also sold in my country, but I've never tried to grow them, even though I've always had the desire to try. In my mountains there are also some natural types, some guys go to collect them, but I don't know how to recognize the right mushrooms and I don't trust. I'm curious to see how it goes.

Have a happy holiday.
