Birds diving into the water

Watching birds dive into the water is always so interesting to witness. I am not sure what they are going after, maybe water? Maybe a small fish? Well whatever they are doing, they really like skimming the water and sometimes hitting it hard enough to make ripples.

These birds show up in flocks and spend time by the water together.

Maybe its a sport to them, to fly around together and swim the water.. Maybe its a version of bird chicken.. lol

These birds seem to be around just during the spring and summer. Maybe they go back to warmer climates during the winter.

But they seem to come back every year, and just have a blast on the water.

Above we can see one hitting the water, amazing they do not get stuck in the water from doing that.

Quickly it leaves and gets back into the air.

It is hard to tell if it got anything, they are so small. To be able to tell if they caught something would be pretty hard to see.

Not sure exactly what bird they are, maybe swallows.

I also thought they look like swallows, but in your second to last pic, it definitely looks to me like that bird has a little fish in its talons, and I don't think swallows hunt for fish.

Yeah I am not sure what they are hunting for.. as they are quite small.. usually eagles or hawks go after fish.

That is pretty cool. I saw a bald eagle swoop down one time and try to pick up road kill. It was too heavy and I almost hit it with my car!

I wonder if they have their own version of summer training camps before they head back to warmer places for the winter. It's incredible how they come back every year to enjoy the water.

Maybe, seems they do migrate.. so maybe there is a pattern.

Such an amazing capture! The way the birds dive is so graceful and powerful—nature in motion.

I have had similar experiences while in Benue State Nigeria. You could see wild ducks fly into the water from distance, but I never see reasons to document these things. I just admired nature in actions of the birds. Well done @solominer, and thank you for sharing this

Oh that is quite cool. I think we have diving ducks here too. Will need to see if I can capture some pictures of them in action.

I bet they're after small fish, but at that distance it's hard to tell what they are catching. I love watching birds five like that!
