Estate sale weekend and some interesting finds

netherlands-56.jpgIts not everyday you come across a taxidermy Caimen, although this was the case in our last estate sale we worked at. This was probably the most unique pieces at the estate and I had my eye on purchasing it for photogaphic reasons and as a conversation piece for some of my eclectic collections in my work shop, although I couldn't really justify the price.

The sale had all the regular items any household would have and I loaded up with tools for my shop and some other odds and ends. The prize of the day was vintage photography. The owners had roots in the Netherlands and a great deal of interesting black and whites from the turn of the 20th century to the mid 60's was being thrown out as most photography does at many of these sales. As an avid collector and an antique connoisseur, I scooped them up.

There was little documentation to go on although each picture tells its own story. Some of the photography is from the Netherlands and the tropical shots I am not sure of, although the historic nature of them is quite intriguing with some photos of villages, mining sleuths, and plantation scenes.

There was also a book of photos of a building project in the Netherlands that took place in the 1960's of a possible housing project next to a pencil factory named Bruynzeel. There was also a page from a newspaper of the finished project which I haven't had a chance to translate yet.

Yes that one intrigued me as well. Not sure where in the world it was taken but an awesome capture indeed

We were wandering around a couple of emporiums today that had all sorts of stuff from vintage clothes to militaria. There were a few stuff animals too. I wouldn't want those in my house. I was more interesting in the music gear on sale, but didn't buy anything today. You would probably enjoy looking.

I’m not one for stuffed animals although the Caiman was interesting not something I’d show off in the house 😊 but yes love walking around the emporiums and checking out the vintage wares. Do you see much audio gear in your travels. Tannoy was manufactured out there and I find them occasionally but of course prices have gone wild

I've not seen much audio gear apart from the odd guitar amp. There were some vintage record players on sale. The hifi stuff may go to specialist dealers.
