Hike full of history from Kutná Hora to Český Šternberk (Czech republic) - Day 1

Today we're going to look at a hike I did the penultimate weekend in August that was supposed to be vacation training. I already had Friday off at work, so I could leave a day earlier than usual. I chose the historic town of Kutná hora as the starting position and the final destination at the Český Šternberk castle by the river Sázava.

Dnes se podíváme na hike, který jsem uskutečnil předposlední víkend v srpnu, který měl být tréninkem na dovolenou. V práci jsem měl volno již v pátek a tak jsem mohl vyrazit o den dříve něž obvykle. Jako startovní pozici jsem zvolil historické město Kutná hora a cíl na hradě Český Šternberk u řeky Sázavy.

I arrived in the city early in the morning because I wanted to walk through the city before the crowds of tourists flocked here. Which was successful and only locals were walking the streets.

Do města jsem přijel brzy ráno, protože jsem chtěl projít městem dříve než se sem nahrnou davy turistů. Což se povedlo a po ulicích se pohybovali pouze místní.

Kutná hora used to be a rich town thanks to silver mining, so there are a lot of historic houses in the town, such as the Dům u tří králů (House of the Three Kings) or Vlašský dvůr.

Kutná hora bývalo bohaté město díky těžbě stříbra a tak je ve městě spousta historických domů jako například Dům u tří králů, nebo Vlašský dvůr.

The best views of all the monuments in the city are from the Breuerových sadů (Breuer Gardens), which at that time were occupied only by morning joggers.

Nejlepší vyhlídky na všechny monumenty ve městě je z Breuerových sadů, které tou dobou byly okupovány pouze ranními běžci.

But I already know all these views of Kutná Hora from previous visits, so I headed for a new views for me in the nearby forest.

Ale všechny tyto pohledy na Kutnou Horu již znám z předchozích návštěv a tak jsem zamířil na pro mě nové vyhlídky do nedalekého lesa.

From the viewpoints, I continued around the field to the former quarry where there is a geological exposition of stones that can be found in the vicinity of Kutná Hora. Some of them had absolutely beautiful colors and many of them even contained red garnets.

Z vyhlídek jsem pokračoval kolem pole až k bývalému lomu kde je geologická expozice kamenů, které je možné najít v okolí Kutné Hory. Některé z nich měli naprosto krásné barvy a spousta z nich obsahovala i třeba červené granáty.

Then I went around the river Vrchlice, which was one of the main goals why I went to this area. I explored one more quarry on the way and then focused on the river itself.

Pak jsem se vydal kolem říčky Vrchlice což byl jeden z hlavních cílů proč jsem do této oblasti jel. Cestou jsem prozkoumal ještě jeden lom a pak se zaměřil na říčku samotnou.

Along the way there were several historic mining corridors where silver was mined.

Cestou bylo i několik historických těžebních chodeb kde se těžilo stříbro.

There were also several mills on Vrchlice river, a few of them were transformed into luxurious residences in beautiful nature, and some were swallowed up by nature for good.

Na Vrchlici bylo i několik mlýnů, pár se jich proměnilo na luxusní sídla v krásné přírodě a některé příroda nadobro pohltila.

There are also two waterfalls on the river, which are overflows from the pond. I was interested in one that I played with for a while and tried to get the most interesting composition out of this place.

Na říčce jsou i dva vodopády což jsou přepady z rybníka. Zaujal mě jeden se kterým jsem si nějakou dobu hrál a snažil se dostat co nejzajímavější kompozici z tohoto místa.

The next place I wanted to see was the concrete vault dam, but unfortunately it couldn't be photographed from any angle. So the old stone bridge became the object in this part of the river. For some compositions, I took off my shoes and climbed into the river, but it was impossible to stay there for long, because the water from the dam was terribly icy.

Dalším místem kam jsem se chtěl podívat byla betonová klenbová hráz, ale bohužel se nedala z žádného úhlu vyfotit. Takže se objektem v této části řeky stal starý kamenný most. Pro některé kompozice jsem si sundal boty a vlezl do řeky, ale nedalo se tam vydržet dlouho, protože z hráze tekla strašně ledová voda.

I continued over Písečný vrch (356m) to the village of Malešov, from which I did not expect anything special. But I was very pleasantly surprised, because this place is also full of history, and in addition, there is the Přátelský pivovar Malešov (Malešov Friendly Brewery), which brews many kinds of beers. I tasted two 12 degrees and I have to say that the brewers succeeded.

Dále jsem pokračoval přes Písečný vrch (356m) do obce Malešov od které jsem neočekával nic speciálního. Ale byl jsem velmi mile překvapen, protože toto místo je také plné historie a navíc je zde Přátelský pivovar Malešov, který vaří mnoho druhů piv. Já jsem okusil dvě 12 stupňová a musím říci, že se sládkovi povedli.

On the way from Malešov, I visited the site of a battle from the Hussite Wars and also the ruins of Sion Castle. Which was conquered in 1437, and essentially this entire wild period of Czech history was ended by the execution of Jan Roháč z Dubé.

Cestou z Malešova jsem navštívil místo bitvy z dob Husitských válek a také zříceninu hradu Sion. Který byl roku 1437 dobit a v podstatě celé toto divoké období Českých dějin bylo ukončeno popravením Jana Roháče z Dubé.

After that, there was basically nothing interesting on the way except for massive oaks with a small bench, or a storm over Zbraslavice, which narrowly missed me.

Pak už v podstatě nic zajímavého na cestě nebylo kromě mohutných dubů s malou lavičkou, nebo bouřka nad Zbraslavicemi, která mě těsně minula.

Not far behind Zbraslavice is the Pančava mill, which is currently a restaurant, but at the time there was a private event there, so I had to continue on.

Nedaleko za Zbraslavicemi je mlýn Pančava, který je v současnosti restaurací, ale tou dobou tam byla soukromá akce a tak jsem musel pokračovat dále.

As a place to spend the night, I chose a place near the Koutský mlýn (mill) on the Čestínský potok (stream). But first I had to wade through the slightly swampy landscape around the creek. Then I just needed to find a flat place to sleep, which I did quite quickly and go to bed after 40 kilometers of walking all day.

Jako místo pro nocleh jsem se vybral místo nedaleko Koutského mlýna na Čestínském potoce. Ale nejprve jsem se musel prokousat lehce bažinatou krajinou kolem potoka. Pak už jsem jen potřeboval najít nějaké rovné místo na spaní, což se podařilo poměrně rychle a jít na kutě po 40 kilometrech celodenní chůze.
