A troubled trip to Madeira (PT) - Day 3,4 and 5
Hello, everyone. I'm back with another installment of our Christmas trip around Madeira, which we took with friends last year. Those who read the previous article are probably wondering why I chose this particular title for this series. Well, a few things went wrong before I even arrived on the island. For example, Kejva's military boots fell apart on the second day. Mumut managed to break his unbreakable camera. The guys even started writing down their daily losses in their travel diary. I told myself that I had already used up all my bad luck on the way here and during the first evening. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. On the third day, I woke up and found that my camera wasn't working. So I had about 10 more days ahead of me with an 8 kg load on my back that was useless.
So I was forced to take photos only with my phone for the rest of the trip. Therefore, I apologize for the poorer quality of the photos compared to my standard. The fault does not lie with your receivers. But let's get back on track.
We spent the next three days at Levada Nova, from where we made trips to the villages when we ran out of oranges or rum. Which usually happened at the same time. This was mainly due to our experimentation with Poncho. After many tastings in local bars, we started making this concoction ourselves. Through trial and error. Čermus lost his water container when we tried to crush oranges with a stick during one production. So another thing was written down in the diary, and it continued like this every day.
This is how we fought our way through the western part of the island, which was literally scorched earth. Because Madeira was hit by several major fires last summer. So it wasn't the island I had imagined when I planned this trip.
But as we got closer to the north, the landscape got more lively, and I was hoping to get at least some photos that would remind me of Madeira. The only thing we had managed to do so far was make Poncha, which definitely came in handy. We probably found out why the locals call this drink that. Just have three glasses, which is usually 300 ml, and you won't care whether the sun is shining or it's raining. It simply works as mental protection against the local weather, which can change several times an hour.
A pravděpodobně jsme zjistili.
Next time, we will take a look at some of the more interesting places this island has to offer. Until then, bye for now.
Do té doby ahoj.

Even with all the mishaps, it sounds like you turned it into a trip to remember and that resilience really shines through!
I usually don't let anything that happens on the road ruin my trip. Because I believe in the motto: Every cloud has a silver lining.
Oh that garden is like my aunties hometown which has similar soil hehe. Nice trip by the way.
