Wednesday walk down the memory lane

Ulsoor lake is named after the place where it situated. This lake is in the middle of the city. This used to be our (the hubs and mine) favorite haunt. We used to walk here for hours. Often after an hour of walking around the park we usually sit on those benches to enjoy the beauty of the lake.

The trees, little island in the middle of the lake the birds that live in the trees on this tiny island make this place a much sort after park. The crowd here could be a little overwhelming especially for someone like me who hates crowds. However, on most weeks days the place is relatively free. We always go here on weekdays, but the traffic is as always non navigable in Bangalore.

In the evenings this lakes takes on a different aspect all together. The lights and the reflections are amazing. There are a few star hotels around the lake, the closest one is reflected on the placid waters of the lake and its a beautiful sight to see. I don't go here often in the evenings because of the crowd, but I have been there a couple of times just to enjoy the lights and the reflections.

This lake holds some of the most beautiful memories for the hubs and I. Thirty years ago before we got married we had some of our most serious conversations here. Some of the biggest concerns and challenges were resolved here. This was also the place we would bring our first born often as he loved the balloons and the bubbles blowers sold here.

This has also been the place when we as a couple have resolved our major differences of opinions after long hours of staring at the placid lake and the occasional ripples that were caused by a twig or a leaf which broke lose and dived into the water.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and for me it deeply seated in my heart. This lake never fails to cause fountains of love to rise and fall into the waters of the mind. I remember the first time my fiance and I met outside of work under the jacaranda trees here and were blessed with a shower of the love purple /blue flowers.

Yesterday as I drove past this lake and it brought back all those memories. Like a flood the memories washed over me until I reached home. I was absolutely quiet for the next thirty minutes of the ride which made the hubs give me some worried looks.

I can be calm like this lake and yet bubble away chattering like a squirrel that has sighted some nuts when I am with the boys or with the hubs. The calm of this lake, the ducks the boats of the army men who have taken it upon themselves to maintain this lake all give me sense of peace and tranquility, something I need right now.

The lake needs cleaning a few times in the year as it gets overgrown with weeds or filled with moss and garbage. There are a few hundred garbage bins all around the park and yet it seems people throw their garbage into the lake or perhaps allow the garbage to carelessly reach the lake. The irresponsible behavior of the people here annoys me, its as if they don't realize that this is our city and we need to keep these beautiful places beautiful until we come back here next time. Ok, this is my cue to stop what can grow into a rant.

Honestly I wished I had a few minutes yesterday to be able to stop and take a walk around the lake. There is so much on my mind that needs sorting out. Perhaps the lake would lend its therapeutic calm to me as it always has in the past.

In a couple of months the jacarandas will bloom and the lake will be as beautiful as ever. Then the garland of flowers that adorns the trees will make a full circle in the rest of the season. God willingly I will be able to share with you pictures of those sights and scenes.
