Passing through San Isidro on the way to Tigre, Argentina / Pasando por San Isidro de camino a Tigre, Argentina

When you are traveling in another country for academic reasons rather than tourism, every free moment is a great opportunity to explore the unknown. At least, that has been my approach in such circumstances.

Cuando viajas a otro país por motivos académicos y no turísticos, cada momento libre es una gran oportunidad para explorar lo desconocido. Al menos, ese ha sido mi accionar en tales circunstancias.

A few years ago, while taking a month-long course in Argentina, I would take advantage of the weekends to venture beyond the enormous capital city. Sometimes my classmates and I would make plans, and one Sunday we decided to go to Tigre, a municipality in the province of Buenos Aires where you can take small boats to explore its canals and islands.

Hace unos años, mientras realizaba un curso de un mes en Argentina, aprovechaba los fines de semana para aventurarme más allá de la enorme capital. A veces mis compañeros de clase y yo hacíamos planes, y un domingo decidimos ir a Tigre, un municipio de la provincia de Buenos Aires donde se pueden tomar pequeñas embarcaciones para explorar sus canales e islas.

Early in the morning, we went to the Retiro subway station and took the Mitre line train, getting off at the last station.

Temprano por la mañana, fuimos a la estación Retiro del subte (metro), y tomamos el tren de la línea Mitre, bajándonos en la última estación.

The trip took less than an hour, and when we arrived in Mitre, we wanted to take the Tren de la Costa (Coastal Train), which is a more touristy option that runs through different coastal neighborhoods before reaching the Tigre Delta. With its 11 stations and 15.5 km, it offers the possibility of getting off wherever you want, walking around, and then continuing the trip with the same ticket.

El viaje duró menos de una hora, y cuando llegamos a Mitre quisimos tomar el Tren de la Costa, que es una opción más turística que recorre diferentes barrios costeros antes de llegar al delta del Tigre. Con sus 11 estaciones y 15,5 Km, ofrece la posibilidad de bajarte donde quieras, pasear y luego seguir el viaje con el mismo boleto.

We spent quite a while walking around San Isidro, a very picturesque area with beautiful streets and architecture. The atmosphere was very lively, with lots of people, fairs, and various activities, one of which was an exhibition of vintage cars, which surprised and delighted us.

Nosotros nos quedamos un buen rato paseando por San Isidro, una zona muy pintoresca con bonitas calles y arquitectura. El ambiente estaba muy animado, con mucha gente, ferias y diversas actividades, una de las cuales era una exhibición de carros antiguos, que nos sorprendió y nos encantó ver.

All these old models were operational, and before parking, they took a spin down the main street. Incidentally, their drivers, judging by their clothing, also seemed to be from another era.

Todos estos modelos antiguos estaban operativos, y antes de estacionarse dieron una vuelta por la calle principal, por cierto, sus conductores, por la ropa que vestían, también parecían de otra época.

I didn't collect information on the makes or years of manufacture of these vehicles, but they appear to be from the early 20th century. They're all beautiful, don't you think?

No recopilé información sobre las marcas ni los años de fabricación de estos vehículos, pero parecen ser de principios del siglo XX. Todos una belleza, ¿no creen?

After this brief but very enjoyable tour of San Isidro, we continued on the Tren de la Costa until we reached our destination, Tigre.

Tras este breve pero muy chévere paseo por San Isidro, continuamos en el Tren de la Costa hasta llegar a nuestro destino, Tigre.
