Paraty, an attractive combination of history and nature - Brazil Series #18 [ENG-ESP]
I had only a few days left in Brazil, and I had to get closer to Sao Paulo, the city from where I would take the flight back to Venezuela, so after having visited Búzios and Ilha Grande, I decided to explore one more place on the Green Coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro instead of going directly to the big metropolis. From Angra dos Reis I took a bus and in an hour and a half I arrived in Paraty.
I had read in my guidebook that it was a small colonial city very attractive for its architecture and surrounded by a varied natural environment with beaches and mountains, something irresistible to me 😃. The bus dropped me off at the terminal and from there I walked with my backpack, which weighed a lot, until I found an inn to stay for three days, which I located very close to the historic center.
It was noon, it was very hot, but as soon as I left my things in the room I went out because I had to take advantage of the rest of the day. With a map that I took from a tourist spot I started to walk through the cobblestone streets of Paraty, which since 1966 is a National Heritage Site.
In the historic center the circulation of vehicles is not allowed, so it is quite comfortable for visitors to walk around. Of course what stands out here is the architecture, with buildings that show the wealth that this population enjoyed, since Paraty was an important port and a stopping point between Rio de Janeiro and the state of Minas Gerais, which during the eighteenth century experienced a great gold rush.
Today this city has in tourism an ally for its economy, many people visit it and that is why many of the historic buildings became inns, restaurants, art galleries, designer stores, cafes and a variety of establishments that energize its atmosphere.
If you like photography you can take a lot of shots here, there is natural and architectural beauty everywhere. I saw on the map that a river ran through the historic center and I went there to look at the scenery from the bridges and to cross to the other side.
There are many options for sightseeing here, simple walks through the old streets, bike and horse-drawn carriage rides, kayaking, and if you want to go into the surrounding area, there are boat rides that leave from the pier to the hundreds of beaches and islands that this region has, and also hiking trails through the mountains.
The next day I decided to go to some beaches that were recommended to me and they are about half an hour from Paraty. I took the bus to Trindade early in the morning, there is a small fishing village and four beaches that can be reached on foot and are called: Meio, Fora o Ranchos, Caixadaço and Cepilho.

The landscape of these beaches surrounded by mountains and rocks is wild, and the waters are quite rough, so I didn't swim much, but I liked it. The most impressive for me was undoubtedly Cepilho Beach, just look at these huge rocks that are all over its extension.
I walked among those gigantic stones, some gray, some black, and I also took advantage of them to put my camera and take pictures with the automatic shutter.
On my last day in Paraty I also went to another beach, this one included a hike to get there. The entrance is about 35 km from the city, in a town called Laranjeiras, and the trail to it is 3 km. Although it is in the mountains anyone can do it because it has no major difficulty, and also you go between the freshness of a forest. It is called Sono Beach, isn't it beautiful?
Here there is a fishing village, there were not many people, I guess because it is not so easy to access. The beach has calm waters and while I was there several boats arrived with their catch of the day. At about 4:00 in the afternoon I returned to Paraty, I wanted to walk a little more around the city and then sort out my backpack to take the bus the next day to my last destination in Brazil, Sao Paulo.

Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
jejeje si despues me di cuenta.
I always like to visit small towns like this. It's especially nice for local people about economically due to the tourist visits. The photos you took from the beach look fascinating, the rocks are really dazzling, like a postcard🌎
Yes, visiting villages is lovely, it brings you closer to the local way of life and culture. Glad you liked the photos! Thanks for stopping by :)

It sounds like your journey through Brazil was filled with adventurous exploration and captivating destinations. Paraty seems like a delightful choice to immerse yourself in before heading to São Paulo. The allure of its colonial architecture and the picturesque natural surroundings, including beaches and mountains, must have created an irresistible charm. Your decision to stay near the historic center allowed you to experience the essence of the city and its unique atmosphere. Your travels paint a vivid picture of your experience, and I'm eager to hear more about your time in Paraty and your journey back to Venezuela.
