No matter the religion, everyone wants to go to Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) - Brazil Series #14 [ENG-ESP]

It is undoubtedly the most famous monument in Brazil, and worldwide is like a symbol that represents the country and especially Rio de Janeiro. It was on my fourth day in the city that I finally got to see Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) and its spectacular surroundings.

Es sin duda el monumento más famoso de Brasil, y a nivel mundial es como un símbolo que representa al país y sobre todo a Rio de Janeiro. Fue en mi cuarto día en la ciudad que finalmente conocí al Cristo Redentor y su espectacular entorno.

This iconic monument is located in the area of Cosme Velho, where I arrived by bus, there is the access to the Corcovado hill. The traditional way is to go on the train, you pay your entrance fee and then board the cars of a railroad that is like an elevator. As you go up you start to see incredible views of the city, the ride is not very long, 3.8 km that are completed in about 15-20 minutes. You can also go up by road, on foot or by private car.

Este icónico monumento queda en la zona de Cosme Velho, a donde llegué en autobús, allí está el acceso al cerro Corcovado. Lo tradicional es ir en el tren, pagas tu entrada y luego abordas los vagones de un ferrocarril que es como un ascensor. A medida que subes empiezas a ver increíbles vistas de la ciudad, el recorrido no es muy largo, 3.8 Km que se completan en unos 15-20 minutos. También se puede subir por una carretera, a pie o en carro particular.

The train leaves you a few meters from the statue, when I got off I saw a map of the place, there are many areas to explore.

El tren te deja a unos metros de la estatua, cuando me bajé vi un mapa del lugar, hay muchas áreas para explorar.

I looked around and from there I could see nothing of the monument, but as soon as I walked a few meters, I found the back of Christ the Redeemer, and I was impressed with how big it is.

Miré a mi alrededor y desde ahí no se veía nada del monumento, pero apenas caminé unos metros, me encontré con la espalda del Cristo Redentor, y quedé impresionada con lo grande que es.

The construction of the monument began in 1922, on the 100th anniversary of Brazil's independence, and the statue was inaugurated several years later, on October 12, 1931. The art deco style figure of Christ the Redeemer was designed in its final version by the Brazilian artist Carlos Oswald and the French sculptor Paul Landowski was in charge of its execution.

La construcción del monumento se inició en 1922, cuando se cumplían 100 años de la independencia de Brasil, y la estatua fue inaugurada varios años después, el 12 de octubre de 1931. La figura estilo art déco del Cristo Redentor fue diseñada en su versión final por el artista brasileño Carlos Oswald y el encargado de ejecutarla fue el escultor francés Paul Landowski.

Including the base, the statue is a total of 38 meters high, and is placed on top of the Corcovado hill, 710 meters above sea level. It is also located within the Tijuca National Park, an area of almost 4,000 hectares full of natural beauty and very important for the ecological balance of the city.

Incluyendo la base, la estatua tiene en total 38 metros de altura, y está colocada en lo alto del cerro Corcovado, a 710 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Además se encuentra dentro del Parque Nacional da Tijuca, un área de casi 4.000 hectáreas lleno de bellezas naturales y muy importante para el equilibrio ecológico de la ciudad.

The views from here are outrageously beautiful, that's why it is one of the most visited places in Brazil.

Las vistas desde aquí son escandalosamente bellas, por eso es de los lugares más visitados de Brasil.

Despite the great urban development of Rio de Janeiro, nature is always present here and there, something I really liked about this city.

A pesar del gran desarrollo urbanístico de Rio de Janeiro, la naturaleza siempre está presente por aquí y por allá, algo que me gustó mucho de esta ciudad.

Returning to the statue of Christ the Redeemer, as I say in the title of this post, religion is the least important thing here. While it is true that Jesus of Nazareth is the highest figure of Christianity, people come to this monument from all over the world and of any creed.

Volviendo a la estatua del Cristo Redentor, como digo en el título de esta publicación, la religión es lo de menos aquí. Si bien es cierto que Jesús de Nazaret es la máxima figura del cristianismo, a este monumento viene gente de todas partes del mundo y de cualquier credo.

One of the things that caught my attention the most about this work of art was its face, it transmits a lot of tranquility, don't you think?

Una de las cosas que más me llamó la atención de esta obra de arte fue su rostro, transmite mucha tranquilidad, ¿no les parece?

I continued my walk around the monument taking advantage of the viewpoints, the beautiful views are endless here.

Continué mi paseo por el monumento aprovechando los miradores, las vistas hermosas no tienen fin aquí.

This is how my visit to this iconic place ended and then I went to downtown Rio de Janeiro, to have lunch and spend the afternoon browsing around.

Así terminó mi visita a este icónico lugar y luego me fui al centro de Rio de Janeiro, para almorzar y pasar la tarde curioseando por ahí.

This part of the city is very interesting visually because of the intermingling of old and modern buildings.

Esta parte de la ciudad es muy interesante visualmente porque se entremezclan las edificaciones antiguas con las modernas.

After lunch I stopped by several places, such as the Cultural Center of the Bank of Brazil, the Municipal Theater, Cinelandia, among others, I say goodbye with some pictures I took of them.

Después de comer pasé por varios lugares, como el Centro Cultural del Banco de Brasil, el Teatro Municipal, Cinelandia, entre otros, me despido con algunas fotos que les hice.
