La Carlota Air Base | Monomad challenge [ENG-ESP]

One day, when I was working as a reporter, I was sent to an assignment outside the city of Caracas, Venezuela, and to get to my destination I had to go to the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, popularly called La Carlota, and take a small plane. As I hadn't had the opportunity to visit this place until then, I took my camera with me to take some pictures, which I converted to black and white and are my entry for the #monomad challenge.

Un día, cuando trabajaba como reportera, me enviaron a una pauta fuera de la ciudad de Caracas, Venezuela, y para llegar a mi destino tenía que ir a la Base Aérea Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda, popularmente llamada La Carlota, y tomar una avioneta. Como hasta ese momento no había tenido la oportunidad de conocer este lugar, llevé conmigo mi cámara para hacer algunas fotos, las cuales pasé a blanco y negro y son mi entrada para el reto #monomad.

Located in the east of the city, this Air Base began operating in 1946 as a civilian and military airport. Today its use is restricted only for military or aeromedical flights. It has an area of 103 hectares and in part of it is since 2018 the Bolivar Park.

Ubicada en el este de la ciudad, esta Base Aérea comenzó a funcionar en 1946, como aeropuerto civil y militar. Hoy en día su uso está restringido solamente para vuelos de carácter militar o aeromédico. Tiene un área de 103 hectáreas y en parte de ellas está desde el año 2018 el Parque Bolívar.

Before boarding a small plane of the Bolivarian National Guard to go do my journalistic work, I had time to capture a few shots of the place. I was blown away by the scenery, the iconic mountain of Caracas, Waraira Repano or Avila, looks incredibly beautiful from here. It was also a sunny morning and everything around looked splendid.

Antes de subirme a una avioneta de la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana para ir a hacer mi trabajo periodístico, tuve tiempo de capturar unas cuantas tomas del lugar. Quedé boquiabierta por el paisaje, la montaña icono de Caracas, Waraira Repano o Ávila, se ve increíblemente bella desde aquí. Además era una mañana soleada y todo alrededor lucía espléndido.

I had seen helicopters up close before, but here I saw some very small ones, they looked like toys, you will see them in the hangar later. On the other hand the military helicopters are much larger, some look a bit hostile.

Había visto helicópteros de cerca antes, pero aquí vi algunos muy pequeños, parecían de juguete, los verán en el hangar más adelante. Por otro lado los helicópteros militares son mucho más grandes, algunos tienen un aspecto algo hostil.

Look at what I was talking about, isn't this mountain fabulous? From the Air Base you can also see an attractive cityscape, where the emblematic buildings of this side of Caracas stand out.

Miren de lo que les hablaba, ¿no es fabulosa esta montaña? Desde la Base Aérea se puede observar además un atractivo paisaje citadino, donde resaltan los edificios emblemáticos de este lado de Caracas.

Another interesting area are the hangars, there are several, I was able to approach some of them while waiting for the flight.

Otra área interesante son los hangares, hay varios, me pude acercar a algunos mientras esperaba por el vuelo.

I then boarded the light aircraft and captured some general shots from there.

Luego abordé la avioneta y capturé desde allí algunas tomas generales.

I saw this from the window of the plane and thought it was interesting how those legs and the propeller in motion looked, what do you think?

Vi esto desde la ventanilla de la avioneta y me pareció interesante cómo se veían esas piernas y la hélice en movimiento, ¿qué opinan?

The Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, or La Carlota, was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2007. Many concerts and other cultural events have also been held here over the years.

La Base Aérea Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda, o La Carlota, fue declarada Bien de Interés Cultural en 2007. Aquí también se han hecho a través de los años muchos conciertos y otros eventos culturales.
