Flying... [ENG-ESP]

Many times I've had the opportunity to fly in an airplane, to see the earth from the heights, but none of those times compares to when I flew in a paraglider and felt the breeze on my face and the landscape under my feet floating in the air. That's what I will show you in this post, some images of that experience I lived some time ago.

Muchas veces he tenido la oportunidad de volar en avión, ver la tierra desde las alturas, pero ninguna de esas veces se compara a cuando volé en parapente y sentí la brisa en mi rostro y el paisaje bajo mis pies flotantes en el aire. Es lo que les mostraré en esta publicación, algunas imágenes de esa experiencia que viví hace un tiempo.

We went with my sister and some friends to a place called Placivel, located on the road that goes from La Victoria to La Colonia Tovar, both towns in Aragua state, Venezuela. There is a paragliding school there to learn this discipline, and also for those who don't want to be pilots but want to experience this extreme sport, they offer tandem flights.

Nos fuimos junto a mi hermana y unos amigos a un lugar que se llama Placivel, ubicado en la carretera que va de La Victoria a La Colonia Tovar, ambas poblaciones en el estado Aragua, Venezuela. Allí está una escuela de parapente para aprender esta disciplina, y también para los que no quieren ser pilotos pero quieren experimentar este deporte extremo, ofrecen vuelos tándem o biplaza.

That's what we went to do, tandem flights, a modality in which you launch yourself in a paraglider with an instructor, he is the one who manages everything and you simply dedicate yourself to enjoy.

Eso es lo que fuimos a hacer nosotros, vuelos tándem, modalidad en la que te lanzas en parapente junto a un instructor, él es que maneja todo y tú simplemente te dedicas a disfrutar.

Anyway, the instructors give you a brief talk before the flight and explain how it works, the ascending air currents allow this ultralight glider to rise and stay flying thanks to the wind dynamics. Knowing about meteorology is vital for those who practice this discipline.

De todos modos los instructores te dan una breve charla antes del vuelo y te explican cómo funciona esto, las corrientes ascendentes del aire permiten que este planeador ultraligero se eleve y pueda permanecer volando gracias a la dinámica del viento. Conocer sobre metereología es vital para los que practican esta disciplina.

The instructor unfolds the parachute to be used for the flight, you are weighed (you must not exceed 95 kg) and you are fitted with the equipment: helmet and harness or chair. Then he joins his harness with yours and you are attached to him, you go in front and he goes in the back. The next step is to place ourselves in front of the cliff and when the instructor says, we run into the void hahaha, it's a little scary, but before reaching the ravine you magically rise and that's it, you're a bird soaring through the sky.

El instructor despliega el paracaídas que se va a usar para el vuelo, te pesan (no debes exceder los 95 Kg) y te colocan el equipamiento: casco y el arnés o silla. Luego une su arnés con el tuyo y quedas sujeto a él, tú vas adelante y él atrás. El siguiente paso es ubicarnos frente al precipicio y cuando el instructor dice, corremos hacia el vacío jajaja, da un poco de miedo, pero antes de llegar al barranco mágicamente te elevas y listo, eres un ave surcando el cielo.

We quickly reached a high altitude, about 3,000 meters, I no longer felt nervous, I relaxed seeing all that mountainous landscape, the roads that marked it, crops and the sound of the wind, a wonderful peace. Now every time I see a vulture or any other bird gliding in the sky I know a little how they feel when they fly and I'm glad I could enjoy a bit of that.

Rápidamente alcanzamos una gran altura, unos 3.000 metros, ya no sentía nervios, me relajé viendo todo ese paisaje montañoso, las carreteras que lo marcaban, sembradíos y el sonido del viento, una paz maravillosa. Ahora cada vez que veo un zamuro o cualquier otra ave planear en el cielo sé un poco cómo se sienten cuando vuelan y me alegro de haber podido disfrutar una pizca de eso.

We lasted about 20 minutes in the air, where in addition to go far and soar quite high, we also made changes of direction, turns that were very fun. Then we landed in an area set up for that and a transport was waiting for us to return to the school, the feeling I had was that I wanted to repeat hahaha.

Duramos unos 20 minutos en el aire, donde además de irnos lejos y elevarnos bastante, también hicimos cambios de dirección, giros que resultaron muy divertidos. Luego aterrizamos en un área dispuesta para eso y un transporte nos esperaba para regresar a la sede de la escuela, la sensación que me quedó es que quería repetir jajaja.

I was the first one in my group to fly and then I took pictures of the others who were about to take off. There were a lot of people, this place is considered one of the best in Venezuela to practice this extreme sport.

De mi grupo fui la primera que volé y luego me dediqué a tomar fotos de los demás que iban a despegar. Había mucha gente, este lugar está considerado entre los mejores de Venezuela para practicar este deporte extremo.

Anyone can experience a tandem flight, no matter how old you are, as long as you don't have any heart problems.

Cualquier persona puede experimentar un vuelo tándem, no importa la edad siempre y cuando no tenga ningún problema cardíaco.

If you are looking for an activity out of the ordinary, I recommend paragliding, it will be something you will never forget.

Si buscan hacer una actividad fuera de lo común, les recomiendo volar en parapente, será algo que nunca olvidarán.
