Share Our World: Boston Public Library

(Edited)

In July I went to Boston to see the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum. It was amazing. I also discovered how incredible the Boston Public Library is too!

This is the McKim Building in Copley Square. It was built in 1895.
It is a nice building on the outside, designed in Renaissance Revival and Beaux-Arts architecture.

Entrance

The inside is stunning!

Mosaic celling as you enter.

The floor as you enter

There is gorgeous marble staircase with lions at the top.

Murals

There are three sets of very impressive murals in the library by John Singer Sargent, Pierre Purvis de Chavannes and Edwin Austin Abby.

Pierre Purvis de Chavannes

Pierre Purvis de Chavannes created The Muses of Inspiration in 1895-1986.

Edwin Austin Abbey

The Abby room was a wonderful, surprising delight. The Quest and Achievement of the Holy Grail murals were installed in 1895-1902.

John Singer Sargent

I was very excited to see the John Singer Sargent murals at the library. I am glad that he inspired me to go cause I really enjoyed seeing the other murals too, especially Abbey's Quest for the Holy Grail.

Sargent's murals are called The Triumph of Religion.

Bates Hall

This is a gorgeous reading room open to the public.

Courtyard

This courtyard was another wonderful surprise. It is cool how you can see some the skyscrapers in Boston from inside the courtyard.

I highly suggest a visit to the Boston Public Library if you are in Boston. It is an architectural and artistic gem.

While I was on the tour of the library the tour guide pointed out the church across the street and said if we had time we should tour the Trinity Church also. I had time and I did and I enjoyed it so much.

Wow, I love libraries so thank you for taking us to it. The only thing I notice is that those chairs must be uncomfortable for reading (at least for me), because I would spend hours there heh, heh.

Greetings from Venezuela.

Hi @florecitamejias This library and the one in DC are some of the most beautiful buildings I have been in. I need to go to the New York Public Library next time I am there. We tried to go to the Harvard library while we were in Boston and found that you needed a Harvard ID.

I am not in Boston, but a visit to the library is worth trying if an opportunity arise.

Also the sight of the triumph of religion pictures are most amazing.

Hi @triplug I was so in awe of the art and architecture I didn't even think about reading a book there. Next time I will have to do that in that gorgeous reading room.

Amazing place! I guess I missed it for my trip to Boston in August. But I did go to the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum and OMG it was like a dream. 😊 Will share about the experience once I have time to organize my photos. 😄
