Paradise in Mindanao: Peace and Waves at Little Siargao, Liloy
When people hear the word Siargao, they often think of surfing, clear blue waters, and fun beach days. Siargao is a famous island in the Philippines, known for its waves, beauty, and relaxing atmosphere. But did you know there’s a place in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte that locals now call “Little Siargao”? It may not be as popular or crowded as the real Siargao, but it gives the same peaceful and refreshing feeling. During my recent visit to Liloy, I got the chance to see this hidden beach, and it truly surprised me in the best way.
Little Siargao is found in Barangay Banigan, a quiet part of Liloy. This beach is not very well-known yet, but more and more people are starting to visit after seeing photos and hearing stories about its calm and beautiful surroundings. People started calling it Little Siargao because of its waves and simple beach life just like in the real Siargao. The road was bumpy in some areas, but we enjoyed the view along the way. We passed by tall coconut trees, small rice fields, and smiling local children waving at us.
When we arrived, we saw a long stretch of beach with grayish white sand, clear water, and gentle waves touching the shore. There were no big resorts, no noisy crowds, just nature and fresh sea air. We could hear the waves and the birds. It felt like time slowed down.
The water was clean, and we walked along the shore barefoot. We picked up a few seashells and took some nice photos. It wasn’t hot under the sun because the sea breeze kept us cool. There were a few local fishermen around, preparing their boats or drying their catch for the day. They were very kind and even greeted us with smiles. Some kids were playing in the shallow parts of the water. A local woman told us, “People started calling this Little Siargao because of the waves. It’s not big like in Siargao, but it still feels the same.”
We stayed there for hours. We brought our own snacks and drinks since there are no stores nearby. We sat under a tree, listened to the waves, and just relaxed. It felt peaceful and healing.
If you want to swim, the water is safe and not too deep. If you just want to sit and enjoy the view, you’ll also love it here. What I liked most is how quiet and clean the place is. It’s a great beach for people who don’t want a loud or busy environment.
Little Siargao is not only a nice place to visit, but it also shows how beautiful and peaceful small towns in the Philippines can be. It's still new to tourists, so it has not been changed by too much development. Let’s hope people who visit also help keep it clean and simple.
We often search for faraway places to relax, but sometimes, the best places are just around the corner. Little Siargao in Liloy may not be as big or famous as other beaches, but it has something special: peace, beauty, and warmth from the locals. It’s a place where you can breathe fresh air, clear your mind, and enjoy the simple joys of life.
So if you ever find yourself in Zamboanga del Norte, don’t forget to visit Barangay Banigan and see Little Siargao for yourself. Bring your loved ones, a good camera, and an open heart. You might go there for the beach—but you’ll leave with wonderful memories and a deeper love for the quiet beauty of the Philippines.
Until next time! See you on my next nature travel 🌴💗
