In Bologna there are the words of peace!!!
Bologna is the capital city of the Emilia Romagna region and metropolitan city, located between the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine mountains and the Po Valley. It is an important meeting point between north and south, east and west, and easily accessible from the Adriatic Riviera as well as from cities like Venice, Florence, Milan and Rome.
I decided to take a walk in this city that I had not seen for a while, as I had missed it historically and architecturally. It is probably not a very famous city in terms of tourism abroad, but in my opinion it is worth a visit. I was eager to discover its beauty and history again, and I was satisfied with my trip. Even if it is not as well known internationally, this city has a lot to offer to those interested in art, history and architecture.
Bologna is a city of art, culture and commerce with an efficient trade fair structure and a renowned manufacturing and motorsport tradition. It is famous for its almost 40 km of arcades, the longest in the world. The city is also known as 'La Dotta', because of its ancient university, and 'La Grassa' for its excellent cuisine. Bologna has been declared 'Creative City of Music' by UNESCO and boasts one of the largest and best-preserved medieval historical centres in Europe, full of clubs, inns, theatres and workshops. The city is the birthplace of great artists such as Giorgio Morandi, Guido Reni, the Carraccis, Guercino and Aspertini, and has attracted illustrious personalities such as Mozart, Carducci, Dante, Rossini and the Nobel Prize winner for Physics, Guglielmo Marconi.
The first thing to see in Bologna is undoubtedly the Piazza Maggiore, where medieval palazzi, witnesses to the city's vibrant public life and intense economic activity, blend perfectly with modernity while retaining their old-world charm. One example is Palazzo D'Accursio, seat of the City Hall, where the modern Art Nouveau-style Salaborsa multimedia library and Roman archaeological excavations are visible through a modern glass floor. Among the symbols of Bologna is Giambologna's Neptune Fountain, which is a popular attraction for tourists. The city has a rich and fascinating history with a unique artistic and architectural heritage, making it an ideal destination for those who love art, culture and history.
Bologna boasts a rich heritage of art, contained in its many museums and galleries, as well as in many important religious buildings. Among these, the Santo Stefano Complex is one of the best known, as is San Domenico, which houses the marble ark with the saint's remains, the work of Nicolò dall'Arca with sculptures by Michelangelo. Another important religious building is Santa Maria della Vita, which boasts another masterpiece by Nicolò dall'Arca, the sculptural group of the Pietà. Bologna is a city with a rich and diverse history and culture, and these buildings represent only a small part of its artistic and architectural heritage.
During my trip to Bologna, I wanted to taste the famous tortellino in brodo, a typical dish of this area. However, there is a dispute between Bologna and Modena over who invented the tortellino first, although there are some differences between the two versions, especially when it comes to the preparation of the filling. Tortellino Bolognese uses pork loin marinated for 2 days with garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper, which is then slow-cooked with a knob of butter. Prosciutto crudo, mortadella di Bologna, parmesan cheese, an egg and nutmeg are then added and everything is finely minced. The Modenese version, on the other hand, uses pork loin cut into cubes and sautéed in a pan for a few minutes, Modena ham, mortadella, matured Parmesan cheese, one or two eggs, nutmeg, white pepper and salt, all finely minced in the mincer. The pastry is prepared by hand and rolled out with a rolling pin to maintain porosity and elasticity. Also with regard to the broth, there are two different schools of thought: in Modena the broth is made from chicken prepared in the morning to be consumed in the evening, while in Bologna it is made from capon and beef and must include the bone. The closing of the tortellino also varies according to the area: in Modena it is closed around the index finger, while in Bologna around the little finger.
Every year, to celebrate Christmas, Christmas lights are chosen in Bologna with phrases from famous songs. This year, the choice fell on John Lennon's hymn to peace, one of his most famous poems in notes, which will be used to illuminate Via D'Azeglio, one of the city's main streets. Christmas lights are a key element in creating the atmosphere of the holidays and in Bologna they are carefully chosen to make Christmas even more special. Not only the people of Bologna, but also the tourists visiting the city during the Christmas period will be able to enjoy the beauty of the lights and the atmosphere at this time of year.
The words of former Beatle John Lennon, murdered exactly 42 years ago on 8 December 1980, will be illuminated in Bologna. The words 'People', 'Religion', 'World' and 'Dreamer' will be reproduced in capital letters to emphasise their universal value, while the word 'Peace' was drawn by street artist Jago. This initiative aims to celebrate John Lennon's life and message of peace and to remember his contribution to music and culture. The illuminated words will represent a symbol of hope and unity in a difficult time for the world.

Hi there, @silviared945. 😃 I totally agree. I'm a lover of art and have always admired Italy in general for its preservation of Renaissance arts and culture.
These pictures are neat and lovely. I would love to visit Bologna at Christmas and see the special sights for myself. Even their cuisines are an art! 😅
