The entrance of the ancient Palazzo del Comune

Hello hivers, an happy Wednesday to you all! This is my first content in the Worldmappin community and I hope to do everything right. 😊

I think this content could be a nice way to share the beauty of the city where I live to everyone. At now, walking around the streets and the alleys, we can meet here a lot of tourists who seems to appreciate the ancient buildings all around, the striped churches tipical in my area and all the interesting ancient and contemporary artworks in the museums.

Today I'm here to show you some details of the entrance of the ancient "Palazzo degli Anziani" (literally means "Palace of the old people"), best known as the Palazzo del Comune or "Palazzo di Giano". This is a Gothic-style stone palace in the main square of my city (Pistoia, in Italy). Since some centuries is city hall and inside of it there is also a very interesting Museum of ancient art and a couple of rooms that artists can use for art exhibitions.

I want to focus the attention on the entrance because I think people could be impressed by the ancient architecture of the entire building but, at the same time, don't notice some interesting details.

The main large door to go inside the building is a beautiful ancient wooden sculpted door and, when it's open, you can see there is an internal courtyard. A curious fact: in the ancient time, in that courtyard, there was a menagerie to enclose a donated lion, and, before, one of the last bear in my area was also enclosed there and it became a symbol of the city.

Don't worry, now in that courtyard there are just some interesting sculptures. 😊

At the right of the door there is a display of the length of a "Braccio" (literally means "arm"), the ancient measure used in Tuscany and, down of it, the lenght of a "Metro", the actual measure (just to know, in one metrto there are 39.3701 inches).

At the left of the door there is a stone display dated 1860 about the Plebiscito to become part of the Kingdom of Italy (when Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia was proclaimed King of Italy). We were a Kingdom until the 1946, when the monarchy was abolished thanks an institutional referendum.

At the right of the entrance you can see a small votive shrine on the wall of the alley close to the Palazzo. There are many votive shrine along the alleys of my city, the most part of them has Saint Mary portraits inside of it.

Maybe you noticed the entrance door is under a beautiful loggia.

I took all these pics yesterday with my camera (a Nikon Coolpix B700).

See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia

I've only been to Italy once. But I dream that when the war is over, I will be able to travel again. I want to see so much more!

These kinds of buildings are very beautiful. I wasn't interested in history in the past, but since I've been seeing different cities in this community with various historical artifacts, I've become much more interested and I want to be in the environment myself and take photos from different angles.

In my city there are a lot of historical artfacts, from ancient building and churches to ancient sculptures. It's very common here in Tuscany and Pistoia is very similar to Florence even if smaller and not so famous like Florence, so I started to love every details very soon in my life. ❀️
