The Carpenter Bee: time to bore a tunnel
This is the time of the year when I can watch a lot of different little lives all around in my backyard. Birds, the cats of my neighbors, snails and bees, included the Carpenter bees!
Since a couple of years I noticed a Carpenter Bee (maybe there are more of them and not just one) use to bore an old wooden piece I placed in my backyard. Searching some infos on google I'm pretty sure it's a female Carpenter Bee (a Xylocopa violacea) who, waiting the born of her little ones, bores tunnels in the wood.
As you can see, she looks very busy to bore her nest and it seems she was interesting aboy me while I was taking some pics of her close to the wood. 😊
In that corner the natural light was not so good, so the beautiful shades of blue color of the wings seem to be less vivid than in real.
Along the time, she (or they, I'm not sure) bored some different tunnels on the same died wooden piece and now it looks like a sort of Emmental Cheese. 😁
To be honest, I like to watch this Carpenter Bee while she works on the tunnels. It's not aggressive and the yellow spots betweens the wings let me know she just ate some pollens and thanks those spots on her body the pollen can fly around and this is good for Nature. ❤️
I took all these pics thanks my Nikon Coolpix B700.
See ya soon and stay safe,
Silvia
