The ancient wash-house.

Hello hivers, an happy Tuesday to you all!
Today I'm here to talk about an old tradition here in my area (Tuscany, Italy) that came into my mind after I visited a small village close to my city: the "lavatoio" or "bozzino".
It was a place where, in the old time, women used to wash their clothes, all together.
As you can understand, before the Second World War and, in many places out of the city until the 1960s there was no water inside the most part of the houses. To have the water at home was really a luxury reserved just for the few rich families.
The household laundry was washed at a public washhouses placed inside the cities and in every village. When I was a child there was also a similar place in the village where I was born, but at now the most part of this small buildings were destroyed.
A couple of weeks ago I could take some pics of one of them in the small village called Spedaletto. It has been renovated just few years ago thanks some public fund and it came back to its original activities: to wash clothes and to be a place where people uses to meet together to talk about this and that. 😁

When I watched this ancient wash-house (here we call this kind of building "lavatoio" or "bozzino") I had some memories from the past, when I use to go to a simila one with my grand mother. At home she had the water (it was the end of the 80s), but she had the habit to wash there the bed clothes because she didn't have a wash machine. To be honest, I think she used to go there also to meet the other women to chat togheter. Yes, it was the perfect place for a lot of gossip, believe me.

Just to know, when almost every family had a wash machine at home, it was a nice place to go to put the children to play inside the water as the same way today we use to do in the small inflatable pool. 😁

Well, now I have to come back to my brushes and colors.
