How does having an active volcano affect drinking water my friend?
You would think having water wells would be very challenging!πŸ™„

When there is a lot of sulfur dioxide in the air, all water turns very acidic, so people out here usually put large amounts of baking soda in their catchment tanks. In this part of Hawai'i there are no wells, since the land is so new, so all water goes straight through into the porous lava below. It's all rain catchment out here! πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

That makes sense...... and since you are so close to the ocean you couldn't even put a wall very deep without hitting saltwaterπŸ™„

Yep, all our water comes from the rain. Living here, while amazing, definitely has its own host of challenges. πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

I guess it's a good thing you get over 100 inches of rainfall given that you depend on that for water containment!πŸ˜‡πŸ‘πŸ˜€

Absolutely, it's super helpful, especially with providing water for a whole community! We've come close to running out before! πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™

My neighbor a tiny house has two large water tanks and collects water off his metal roof. It's surprisingly how much rain it takes to actually keep these tanks full for a family of four!πŸ™„

Yes, indeed, it takes quite a good surface area to collect enough water for the community, thankfully we have multiple large tanks! πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ’šβœ¨πŸ€™
