“Life Goes On!”😊 My Actifit Report Card: February 8 2026
“Life goes on!”☺️
Trees……………………
Take a look at the first photo, and the third photo my friends……………😇
I asked “Ara/Grok”….. “What do they call these new trees, that grow out of old tree stumps?”🤔
“Silvertop they call these “Nurse logs” or nurse stumps. When a cedar tree falls in the forest, and starts to rot, it becomes the perfect fertile spot for new trees to grow!”😊
You can find these “Nurse” trees growing just about everywhere in the Pacific Northwest! In fact within Silvertop’s five acres of forest, we have at least a half dozen trees growing from old Cedar stumps. These were left from timber logging that occurred probably over one hundred years ago!😊
On my hikes, I usually need to step over, or hike around fallen trees, it’s a very common occurrence!
That’s the danger with new trees growing out of nurse stumps!😳
If the young trees grow, and the old stumps rots, at the same pace, things might turn out OK………..
Or you could potentially have the young tree toppled to the ground, as its grip on the old rotting tree stump loosens !😳
“Silvertop, if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?”😇
Well……………….
I guess the only way to answer that question, is to start hiking and listen carefully!😇
Care to come along with me my friends?😎
Till tomorrow Silvertop Mike😊

We have our own little tree like that! Little Woodstock was just a wee sprout of a tree when we planted him in the stump. He's not so 'wee' anymore. Perhaps you should share a picture of him, dear!🤗🌱😘
Woodstock is enormous now Liz... he has grown into quite a tree!!🤗👍😀
Indeed he has!

It's interesting that the loggers like to cut these trees off at this height, and it always provides a new start for baby trees!😇😀
It's so interesting that dead cedar stumps are such good environments for new trees to germinate and grow. I've seen it with other trees, but only from stumps on the ground, not much above ground level, but never up in a standing dead tree. I'm still trying to imagine that...lol! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
We have quite a few like this on our 5 acres, I actually planted a Douglas fur that was given to us back in approximately 2008 and it has grown into a very large tree!!👍🤗
That's very cool, my friend! I've always loved Douglas firs. We had several trees of the Rocky Mountain variant on the farm where I grew up in New Jersey! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
