You can see in the third and fourth photo a heavy sheet of rain is making its way North across Sumas Mountain!😮
“Liz, if we are going to check out the water level on the Nooksack River we better hurry……. the rain is coming towards us fast!😅
Recently we discovered that our Pastor at our Church, had a new home built for himself and his Wife, down in the town of Sumas…………
This town sit at 49 feet above sea level, in a “Flood Plain” !🙄
Silvertop sleeps better knowing our home is over 500 feet above sea level, in the foothills of the Mountains!😇
Quickly Liz and Silvertop hiked the “Everson River Trail”, making our way to the rocky shoreline, as the rain continued across Sumas Mountain, coming closer……….
We carefully stepped over large trees, that were carried by the rain swollen river during the last round of heavy rains!
When a heavy rainstorm happens at “Low Tide”, no matter how intense the storm, the river seems to be able to handle the excess water, only rising a few feet in depth!😇
On the other hand, a downpour at High Tide, can have devastating consequences!😳

That is indeed ominous! Hope your pastor and his wife stay safe! I'm with you. I much prefer having a home up above the flood plain.
I have talked to many people in the valley, and flood insurance is too expensive so they choose to do it without!🙄

Never build on a flood plain, it will flood again and again. Smart move on your part being 500 feet up!
Too bad the rain is coming back, but at least you got to enjoy the gray day at the park yesterday and warm up with a latte!

They put in a complete neighborhood with very beautiful homes exactly where it flooded several years ago 3 to 4 feet in flood water!😮
At the turn of the 20th century, Canada drained a shallow lake, just across the border and built homes and farms on the land. During winter rains, they continue to run pumps to keep that land dry, and if they fail it will flood Canada and the water will flow over the border into Sumas and flood the town of Sumas as well!😳
