The cold practice

When it comes to having fun burning calories and pushing your physique to the limit with every move, the ingenuity of the human mind knows no bounds. Snow volleyball, or simply snow volleyball, is perhaps the most peculiar and clear example. This sui generis activity was born out of the need to adapt the popular high net game to much more extreme environments, where low temperatures play a special role during most of the year.

Its beginnings date back just over a decade, in the middle of the cold Austrian mountains of Wagrain-Kleinarl. At the “insignificant” height of 1,850 meters, innovative enthusiasts settled at the Flying Mozart ski resort, attracting a huge number of players and fans. Well, if something characterizes snow volleyball, it is the spectacular nature of its game.

Those who practice it say that compared to beach volleyball - its older brother - it is much more difficult to predict the direction of the ball and read the opponents' actions, which is why great skills are needed to improvise on the fly.

In essence, its rules are similar to those on the beach. Use the same ball, as well as the court measurements (16 mx 8 m) and the height of the net (8.5 m). But it differs somewhat in equipment, although today there is no official clothing. Instead of sunglasses, a bikini or a swimsuit, thermal or waterproof clothing is used to maintain body temperature, and cleats are used to ensure grip on such a tricky surface. Even so, we always find someone daring willing to wear typical clothes for a hot summer.
